Beware Of Nerd

'Nerd' Taunt Drove Navy Man To Arson: Petty Officer Russell Tavares Traveled 1,300 Miles To Torch Rival's Trailer

People, you just can't make this stuff up. I mean, you can, but no one would find it credible.

Can you imagine driving 1,300 miles to get back at an online troll... or can you?

You're Fired!

Goodness knows The BLOG has chronicled the saga of Ward Churchill, a.k.a. Professor Sitting Bulls**t:

Chutch The Nutty Professor

Professors For 'Forked' Speech

Zero Tolerance

After two and a half years, the University of Colorado Board of Regents voted to fire Ward Churchill on Tuesday evening.

'I'm Going Nowhere' Says Churchill After Firing

The arrogant plagiarist vows to sue the university. No surprise there. It is surprising that it took so long for UC to rid themselves of such an egregiously unsuitable professor...

But hey, I'll take it. Professor Walking Eagle got the axe and I'm loving it.

Party time!

Botched Trick

Kim Jong-Il's Favorite Magician Seriously Injured Performing "The Spike Illusion In The Face Of Death".

At first, I thought this was something out of Team America, but it really happened.

Japanese magician, Princess Tenko was supposed to escape from a box on the moment it was spiked with 10 fake swords, but instead they trapped her inside, breaking her right cheek and ribs on stage.

Will Kim Jong-Il feed her to his panthers for this failure?

John Gibson doesn't hold back in the 'My Word' segment of July 16th which deals with Rep. Keith Ellison's ridiculous statements about 9/11.

What I Think About Rep. Keith Ellison Comparing Bush to Hitler.

The last paragraph is the best: "Mr. Ellison, you've explained why you don't like George Bush. But you haven't explained why you publicly articulated and endorsed the deranged thinking of the looniest among us. Until you take it back and apologize for dabbling in the craziest of 9/11 conspiracy theories, you truly call into question your fitness to serve in the U.S. Congress."

Well said, John.

Wild About Harry

Took my kids and some of their friends to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

I won't post any spoilers, but I will say that I enjoyed this movie much more than the last two and almost as much as the very first one. It is a bit darker than previous movies, but I would highly recommend it.

... 13 cats for the non-paraskavedekatriaphobes out there.

Past disasters linked to the number 13 hardly help triskaidekaphobics overcome their affliction.

The most famous is the Apollo 13 mission, launched on April 11, 1970 (the sum of 4, 11 and 70 equals 85 - which when added together comes to 13), from Pad 39 (three times 13) at 13:13 local time, and struck by an explosion on April 13.

New Mirriam Webster Dictionary Includes 'Ginormous'

I thought ginormous was a word, but crunk is a new one to me.

The English language is full of surprises. For example, gullible is a word that's

Katie Couric's move to anchor the CBS newcast has been a bust so far and, of course, she blames the viewers...

Couric Says Viewers Weren't Ready For Her Move

There are also reports of tension on the set, with Couric slapping around the news editor for inserting the word, 'sputum' in a story about tuberculosis.

What's wrong with the word, 'sputum'? It's a perfectly good word, especially in the
context which it was used... a story about a lung disorder!

Say it with me... SPUTUM!

And Couric considers herself a serious journalist?

Sheesh!

USS New York

Here SHE is, the USS New York, made from the World Trade Center!

It was built with 24 tons of scrap steel from the World Trade Center .

It is the fifth in a new class of warship - designed for missions that include special operations against terrorists. It will carry a crew of 360 sailors and 700 combat-ready Marines to be delivered ashore by helicopters and assault craft.

Steel from the World Trade Center was melted down in a foundry in Amite , LA to cast the ship's bow section. When it was poured into the molds on Sept 9, 2003 , "those big rough steelworkers treated it with total reverence," recalled Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing, who was there. "It was a spiritual moment for everybody there."

Junior Chavers, foundry operations manager, said that when the trade center steel first arrived, he touched it with his hand and the "hair on my neck stood up." "It had a big meaning to it for all of us," he said. "They knocked us down. They can't keep us down. We're going to be back."

The ship's motto? "Never Forget"

Please keep this going so everyone can see what we are made of in this country!

Isn't she a beauty?

Independence Day

I can't think of a better way to post about the Fourth of July than to bring attention to today's dedication of a statue of a real American hero... Petty Officer 2nd Class, Navy Seal, Seal Delivery Team Two Danny Phillip Dietz Jr.

The Danny Dietz Memorial

There were Littleton, Colorado residents who resisted the movement to place the statue in Berry Park, but fortunately their side didn't succeed in stopping it.

Seal Statue Staying In Park

I think this is a good thing to celebrate on this July 4th.
