Soccer superstar David Beckham, has said his six-year-old son's math homework leaves him baffled. "Their homework is so hard these days," Beckham, 30, said in a recent interview. "It's totally done differently to what I was teached when I was at school, and you know I was like 'Oh my God, I can't do this'."
Hmmm. Teached? Sounds like English isn't his forte either.
Well, you know what they say about the effects of all those headers playing soccer.
ReplyDeleteHe is one of the lucky few who can make a living doing something that doesn't require any academic skill.
But in today's society, it is depressing how much of our talent we are wasting. Smart kids, wasted because no one makes it clear to them how important school is, and by the time they figure it out as a thirty year old working part time for minimum wage at Burger King, they are lucky if they can find a way to go to a community college and earn their G.E.D.
Hopefully the kid's nannies are helping him out with his homework, discipline, and morality influences.

ReplyDeleteI think that "teached" is "taught" regardless of your accent, though the Brit-speak does make everything sound more refined.
ReplyDeleteI too am dismayed that the pencil masquerading as a woman is the brains behind the Beckham operation. She wasn't even the smartest Spice Girl. This is very sad for Britain.
tlm & jessey: I don't care how British he sounds, the man can't do math at the level of a 6-year-old & he has trouble conjugating an easy verb like teach. Blimey, he is dumb.

A six year old's math is only first grade math. I can't imagine where the difficulty lies. We're talking addition and subtraction at its basic level.

With such native mental luminaries as Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, I've almost given up hope for America.
ReplyDeleteI can only hope that my own children will grow to be ubersmart and not soulless, brainless dolts. If they do end up that way though, I'll have solace knowing that it wasn't what I teached them. :)

Cube - not sure if you're serious; you've really never heard Beckham talk?? If not, then I can but warn that you would be instantly doubled up with laughter if you did, purely from surprise, if nothing else. He has a very high pitched girly voice. It's a similar incongruity as to that of Mike Tyson and his voice - have you heard Tyson talk? Well, Beckham's voice is just as silly - for a man.
