Greetings, Bi-Pedal Life Forms!
The Earth's population is projected to reach 6.5 billion at 7:16 p.m. EST Saturday, according to the U.S. Census Bureau and its World Population Clock.
Here's how a four year old interprets that statement--many years ago when my youngest was four there was another momentous population marker being made and we announced this to our two daughters. My youngest then asked "does that include Nicholas?" (a newborn close family friend)
Guesstimate is a good word for it. Who really knows?
What I find funny is how the old doomsayer predictions that we'd be out of food, or out of air, or out of you-name-it, have been proved wrong. This planet and the people who inhabit it, have an enormous capacity to persevere. Gotta love that.
Isn't it amazing how that many people fit on a planet that from orbit appears (and actually is) predominantly comprised of water. Things that make you go hmmmm.
