PETA-luma Loonies

From the San Francisco Chronicle comes this weird story about rat lovers who were furious Wednesday that a Petaluma animal shelter had euthanized about 1,000 of the rodents taken last week from a man who had been hoarding the creatures inside his home.

I don't know which I find more disturbing... the rat hoarder or the rat mourners?

Either way, the funniest comment made about the euthanized rats was that this meant 1,000 less votes for Diane Feinstein...

... I can hear Di-Fei now, "Where's Willard when you need him?" ;-)

  1. Ew, rats are pestilence. I don't understand anyone keeping a rat as a pet.
    It's creepy.

  2. jessey: pet rats are OK. They're actually quite cute and very smart.
But hoarding them by the hundreds is sick. Cats, on the other hand...
    ;-)

  3. wendy: I think they're both sick. I wonder if those San Francisco crybabies would throw a conservative in front of a train to save a rat? Possibly. Their's is a twisted perspective.

  4. Cube: You know that they would!

Pet rats are kewl! I used to have one when my hubby and I first got married! He was clean; he would only "go" in one corner of his cage, rather than all over as a hamster would. He was also very smart, and had an affinity for Wendy's french fries.

Hoarders are gross. It's mean to the animal to have so many that they do not recieve proper care and attention.

As for putting down all of those rats... What were they supposed to do? Let them breed unchecked in a shelter, knowing full well that the prospects for adoption are nil?

PETA are such idiots. It's just a frickin' rat... And that's coming from someone who loves 'em!

  5. *sigh* Now I am nostalgic for my rat, Basil. Too bad animals get old.

  6. Give them a bout of the plague and they'll change their rat tunes!

  7. brooke: I know how smart rats & mice can be. BTW how did you arrive at the name Basil? Basil Ratbone, perhaps? ;-)

m.c.: LOL. I think they'd deny the facts about rats' connection to the plague and just blame President Bush for it ;-)

  8. Cube: Exactly! Basil for Basil Ratbone! :)

  10. Am I wrong or is this the very first time BOTH Darrell and Wendy have commented on one of my posts.
    I think it is. Cool.

  11. U guys don't know anything about pet rats!! They're cute and fun and smart and cool and are disease free. The shelter people should have given those ratties a second chance. I think the hoarder was wrong to keep them all when he couldn't supply adequate care for them.

  12. kelsea: I have had mice as pets. I think rats make great pets, as well. Not too many people agree though. Many people are anti-rat-tites ;-)
