Pluto Out

OK, this Pluto is still a dog, but Pluto is no longer a planet according to the IAU's latest decision .

Our solar system is down to 8 planets now.

There goes the old standby... Mother Very Early Made John Some Unusually Nice Pies.

There goes the new and politially charged... Mama Very Easily Made Crazy John Some Unbelievably Nutty Politically Correct Xylographs. (Yes, Mama & Crazy John are Teh-ray-zuh and John Kerry)

Now we need a new mnemonic...

Mother
Very
Early
Made
John
Some
Unusual
Nachos

I don't know... it sounds a little goofy to me ;-)

  1. Poor Pluto. Just think of the money it will cost to edit all the text books.

  3. jill: that is standard operating procedure in science. It changes constantly as new information is discovered.

The group of kids entering college in 2026 won't even remember a time when pluto was a planet.

  8. Um, just one more question, if Goofy is a dog too, why does he have a pet dog, namely Pluto.

    What is that all about?

    I just want to know.

  11. My kids are outraged!!!!

I bet Pluto's feelings are very hurt.
I read on another blog today that actor Gary Coleman has been demoted from a human to what is now called a Dwarf Human. I thought that was funny.

  13. You're the second person to reference that mneumonic. Don't know why I never learned it; I just memorized the order. That would have come in handy back in the day. :)

I wonder if there are larger bodies out beyond Pluto we've yet to find. Xena was a small one, but who knows what's out past that...maybe a new ninth planet...

  14. Weird...I always heard it as "Many Very Energetic Monkeys Jumped Swiftly Upon Nearby Palms."

Guess now they'll have to jump swiftly upon natives. Or Nancy.

  15. With all the advances in astronomy, they have to update all the textbooks constantly anyway. Let's change the planets every year!
