Woe Is Pup

The bad news: The vet removed Elke's bandage yesterday and naturally she began to lick and bother the stitches. So, out came a huge e-collar. This thing looks like a lampshade and the poor dog is bumping into everything.

The good news: The pathology report on the growth on her foot was a cutaneous calcinosis secondary to a pressure point.

We were very happy to hear that. Now all we have to do is keep our sanity until her foot heals.

  3. Praise G*D it was minor! We dodged a bullet last year with my puppy-wuppy tearing the tendon in his knee, but we got it healed without surgery!

  4. pez: it is a sad thing indeed to watch this poor dog run around with this thing on her head.

shover: it's to keep her away from the stitches in her foot, but I caught her licking her foot today!

tmw: we have some lucky dogs.

  5. i always expect the dog who wears one of these to break out a cigar, a glass of brandy and start singing or telling jokes...

  6. Nanc-Or intoning in proper Elizabethan English about the dreadful conditions they find themselves enduring...with great fortitude of course!

  9. Poor little thing! Hang in there, Cube. We'll pray for quick healing!

And keep that e-collar -- you never know when it might come in handy. At last year's Halloween costume contest, my friend used an e-collar, a large, green-painted jingle bell and some red pipe cleaners to transform her dog into a martini glass. :)

  11. nanc: the lampshade would have to be on her head for the jokes.

    tmw: there you go...

To sleep! perchance to dream... of getting rid of this freakin' collar!

    beckeye: thank you.

j.d.: see my reply to tmw ;-)

jenny: lol. I think my dog might build a bonfire in the backyard & burn the thing.

    nanc: I hear you.

  13. shover: Thanks. She seems to be on the mend. The vet took the stitches out this morning & bandaged the foot again. We're off the e-collar, thank goodness. It was driving everyone, including Elke, crazy.

brooke: It was a tense week for us humans. Elke didn't mind anything as much as wearing that e-collar.

We'll have a nice carefree weekend.

  15. jen: Elke's a cutie, but lately she's also being a bad dog. She's able to whip her foot around the lampshade, er, e-collar, & pick at her wound.

So we wrapped her wound with bandages & she's managed to rip them off & pick at her wound.

We're at our wit's end. It's all about wound management & we just don't know how to manage this one.
