I like October because of the plethora of horror movie marathons on TV. I like scary movies, the scarier the better. Creepy and eerie work too. I'll even put up with a gory movie, if it's scary.
Imagine my surprise when I watched "Blood of Dracula" in the wee hours last night on AMC's Monsterfest. This movie was most decidedly lame, not scary. I laughed at the ridiculous vampire character whose face actually turned bat-like.

Things that creeped me out in high school: Watcher in the Woods (Disney, yet creepy); Something Wicked This Way Comes; Fright Night (awesome vampire movie that's probably not very scary now, but still a classic because it was funny too!)
Also, I haven't seen this yet, but even the TV trailers they're playing for "30 Days of Night"...aiiighhhh!

ReplyDeleteI also enjoyed Something Wicked This Way Comes and Fright Night (the hero's girlfriend's vampiric face was an unforgettable sight).
They were great, but I've just seen them so many times that they no longer scare me.
30 Days of Night has some serious possibilities for scare potential.
Unfortunately, I don't get to theatres often (unless it's a kiddy film), so I may have to wait for the DVD :-(

I stayed up late last night to watch "Carnival of Souls." It's very old and super low-budget, but it's totally awesome. It kind of reminds me of a classic Twilight Zone episode...I won't say which one because that might ruin the plot for you!
ReplyDeleteI watched "The Omen" last night too. That always scared me more than "The Exorcist."
Most horror movies now are crap. They prize style over substance. However, "White Noise" creeped me out quite a bit.
beckeye: I caught Carnival of Souls too. I hadn't seen it since I was a kid and, although I knew the ending, it was a treat to watch.
ReplyDeleteI remember walking around the streets of Manhattan as a kid keeping an eye out for that first guy. He was so creepy.
The movie set in Spain is "Darkness" and it stars Anna Paquin (not Claire Danes).
ReplyDeleteAlso "Stir of Echoes" is, not too scary, but a good movie nonetheless.
I'm going to be sad when October is over, but at least I'll get more sleep.
