The blue cloud has been referred to as an angel, a blue plastic bag from Walmart, and even a malevolent energy cloud from Star Trek.

I've heard of transporter accidents when the molecules are put back in the wrong places (yukky mess), and when the molecular structure is copied, but never having them turned into a blue gaseous entity. Not bad for a non-Trekkie, nanc.
I had heard about this on the radio and the angel expert on there said she didn't believe it was an angel because they don't hover around gas stations.
