Birthday Pup

Everybody is talking about Knut the polar bear's birthday, but today is also Elke's first birthday.

The squirmy, energetic puppy above, has grown into the sleek, high-spirited dog below.

Happy Birthday, Elke-pants.

  1. aren't shepherds just the best dogs in the whole world?!?

our annie-girl is a shepherd/wolf hybrid and there is no other like her.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ELKE!

i remember when my eldest used to take our sharpei, waffles, to baskin & robbins on her birthday and tie her to a post outside, go in and get her a vanilla cup - it was so cute.

  2. Shepherds are such noble, big-hearted dogs. I love the breed.

Elke didn't get any ice cream, but she did get some bacon this AM.

  3. When I married my late, he had 4 shepherds; mother, father, son and an all black daughter. They were the best and sweetest, most patient dogs! Beautiful too!
So Happy Birthday, Miss Elke! Many more...

  5. angel: Don't let her looks deceive you. She's a rough & tumble pup, full of mischief too.

tmw: Wow, 4 shepherds. That's a lot of dog underfoot.

brooke: She was born a year ago today. We got her from the breeder 8 weeks later.

She sure has grown into a beauty, cube. Truman, who will be turning one in just a little over a month, wishes he could meet her. :)

  11. Aw! What a cutie!

We've been having issues here with Kaywinnet pooping in the house. Memo to me: When you go to the pound to get a dog and they tell you that this was has house soiling problems BUT,...nothing after the "but" is worth listening to, just move on. Now we are all in love with her, and trying to figure out how to leave the house without coming home to poo...

  12. beckeye: Thanks.

harris: Time flies especially for pets.

jen: Uh oh. She has some issues.

My dogs poop all over the yard, and have been known to munch on cat poop from the litter box, but they have had only a few accidents inside the house.

Maybe leaving her outside when you're not home?

  13. Lots of enzyme odor killer where she messes, so she cannot still smell what you can't.

If she's only doing it while you're gone, get her to potty outside before you leave, and buy a crate just big enough for her with NO EXTRA ROOM.

Crate her. She won't want to lay in her own poop... Unless she's funny. ;)

  14. We've been enzyming, and now for a couple of trips out we're crating her. She gets really mad when we put her in there, but I figure in the long run it's better than a trip back to the pound. :-( It's not a perfect solution, but it's better than poop on the floor EVERY time we leave the house (or go to sleep, ugh)

    Thanks for your help!

  15. Let her get mad! She'll get over it, and then she'll get used to it! LOL!

  16. That's 7 in dog years, right? For our dogs birthdays, though we always have them on a kibble diet (no real human food), we get them a hamburger from mcdonalds. No candles, though.

  17. Now why couldn't I have one of THOSE dogs?

Instead I have a 14-year old hound mix that is completely blind in one eye and nearly there in the other.

But we love Clyde anyway...we are strange peoples.
