"The Ace Of Cakes" Creates Star Trek: The Cake
The Food Network's reality show "The Ace Of Cakes" is featuring a Star Trek-themed cake for one of next years episodes. Turns out Duff Goldman is a Trek Fan.
I've heard that there is a big flap over some Trek fans complaining that Scotty was shown in the Navigator position and Uhura is at Engineering...
People, it's a cake! And a really pretty cake at that. Almost too pretty to eat.
I'm no baker, but what the heck is fondant?
Not a baker either. But Fondant is like sugar playdough. And it usually tastes like it too.

However...Duff and his crew do some amazing things with it.
Thanks for the information. I suspected as much just from reading the comments from the link, but I wasn't sure. I guess Duff's awesome looking cakes are more for show.

ReplyDeleteFondant is the stuff that makes a cake surface smooth. Icing can't do that. It doesn't taste great - well, I think it has an almond background which I'm not fond of. But it sure is pretty.

I watch Food Network all the time, and I've seen some eps of Ace Of Cakes, but I never knew that playdough looking stuff was called fondant. I live & learn.
ReplyDeletefondant is the playdough looking stuff and can be flavored like frostings can. i too agree that it doesnt taste good (buttercream rocks!) even though it can be flavored. i like the show ace of cakes but i dont agree about all of the cakes. i should have known duff is a trekkie!
