My Angel Dog

We have a special ornament on our Christmas tree this year... a German shepherd with wings and a halo.

As some of the readers of The BLOG know, we lost our beloved Dax in February and this will be our first Christmas without her.

Dax would go to great lengths to earn the words, "good girl", but she had a weakness for Christmas ornaments. We'd get home and often find a chewed up assortment. We learned to put the priceless ones near the top half and the expendable ones within her reach.

This year our ornaments hang safely on our Christmas tree, but I would gladly sacrifice a ton of them just to have our Dax back with us.

Sadly, we will have settle for knowing that angel Dax watches over us and waits for us on the Rainbow Bridge .

[The BLOG note: Hat tip to rgmb for sending me the Rainbow Bridge poem.]

  1. What a fitting ornament. They hold a special place in our hearts. I'm sure Dax was a lucky dog to have you as her human.

  2. Cube,

This was a very sweet post. It's always hard to go through a holiday without a loved one. I have several ornaments that I have collected in memory of my son. They are little treasures on my tree each year.

Have a very peaceful Christmas!!! :-)

  11. I had my dog for 19 years before she went to puppy heaven in 2004. It's still a heavy loss. I never thought of getting an ornament to honor her. Thanks for inspiring me to do so.

  16. cube, thank you for the sweet message on my blog.

a loss of a loved one is a loss of a loved one - it's hard, emotional, and devastating - whether it's a baby you never got to bring home, a grandparent that lived a full life and died naturally, or a precious pet that was a treasured member of your family and your heart for part of your life.

please do not feel idiotic for one second for sharing your grief of your beloved dax. :-)

it is way cool that you have an ornament to remind you of dax, and reading that triggered my thoughts on my ornaments remembering my logan.

    (hugs)
    merry christmas!
    :-)

  18. His birth is a miracle. His love is our gift. His day is a time to rejoice!

Let us rejoice in all He has given us and love one another as He loves us.

  20. Mr. AOW and I are missing Sheba this Christmas. She was part of our Christmas celebration for so many years, 1988 - 2007. It seems so strange not to have her sitting here and begging for tidbits of ham.

All the above said, I know how you are missing Dax.
