Can Cold Water Clean Dishes?

This is for all the germ conscious folks that worry about using cold water to clean.

John went to visit his 90 year old grandfather in a very secluded, rural area of Georgia.

After spending a great evening chatting the night away, John's grandfather prepared breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast. However, John noticed a film like substance on his plate, and questioned his grandfather asking, "Are these plates clean?"

His grandfather replied, "They're as clean as cold water can get them. Just you go ahead and finish your meal, Sonny!"

For lunch the old man made hamburgers. Again, John was concerned about the plates as his appeared to have tiny specks around the edge that looked like dried egg and asked, "Are you sure these plates are clean?"

Without looking up the old man said, "I told you before, Sonny, those dishes are as clean as cold water can get them. Now don't you fret, I don't want to hear another word about it!"

Later that afternoon, John was on his way to a nearby town and as he was leaving, his grandfather's dog started to growl, and wouldn't let him pass. John yelled and said, "Grandfather, your dog won't let me get to my car".

Without diverting his attention from the football game he was watching on TV, the old man shouted .

"COLDWATER, GO LAY DOWN!!!!"

Meet Coldwater...

  2. I laughed good and hard over that one! Well done cube! Great story.

You really had me pulled in. I worked for a butcher who believed that cold water was as healthy and better for your skin as hot water. So I was waiting for verification.
    Hahahaha

    big grins

  3. Lee: Glad you liked it.

Ananda Girl: I thought it was a hoot when I initially posted it, but I had forgotten about it. It wasn't until I saw crazy4coen's post about the Tennessee bird dogs that the memory resurfaced.

  4. Ananda Girl: I stopped using hot water for whites in the laundry a long time ago. Works just fine.

I do use hot water in the dish washer, though, but I agree with your butcher about skin. Hot water dries skin so I tend to go for warm water in the shower.

  5. My mother had a hissy fit if anyone used a people dish to feed a dog. While I know that the dishwasher kills any germs and the dogs have fewer germs than people, I can't bring myself to letting dogs use people dishes,

  6. You had me going! Though I'd never use (real) cold water to wash a dish if I could help it no matter what moral I THOUGHT your story was going to provide!! HEH!
    Adorable, CUBE...thanks!

  7. Jan: I don't make a habit of letting Elke or the cats eat off the human dishes, but it doesn't bother me.

Microbiology lab taught me the futility of trying to keep anything too clean. Truth is bacteria is ubiquitous and, although a surface might look clean, it really is teeming with germs. So you do the best you can and don't worry about the rest.

Woman Honor Thyself: Hope your weekend was a good one. Monday came much too fast for me.

    Z: Glad you liked it.

  9. We often joke about not needing to wash dishes once our dogs take care of the leftovers! LOL!
