For this Cat Blog Friday...
... I've heard the critters in the 'Avatar' movie referred to as smurf cats. I can't say that I agree with that assessment 'cause I like the look of cats much better than that of the ugly Na'vi.

Does this look like a movie you'd like to see? Me, I think I'll pass.

ReplyDeleteI'm going, funny glasses and all. It looks like fantastic eye candy to me. Even with advance knowledge of the underlying environmental themes and that mean ol' capitalist corporations are bad. Grain of salt that I shall ignore as minor flaws if the action is good.
ReplyDeleteI'll probably see it. My kids are looking forward to it, so I'll tag along with them and the hubby. I think it will be a cool movie. If not, I'll be with my family, so I don't mind if it's a stinker.

ReplyDeleteChuck: I'm notoriously bad for going to see movies at the theatre. I'm more of a DVD person. I wonder how this movie will translate onto the TV screen?
ReplyDeleteDaBlade: That's the only way I would watch it too... with a grain of salt. Remember Aliens had Marines, but they fought against nasty aliens. In Avatar, you have "mercenaries" for a US corporation that just look like Marines going after the noble savage Na'vi race to plunder their Unobtainium. Rooting against the US isn't something I look forward to in a movie.

RightKlik: I'm also not one to run to the theater because a movie has been hyped beyond belief by a reviewer, especially a left-wing one.
If Chuck, DaBlade, & Jamie Dawn love this movie... well, I might just go take a look.
Jan: I've loved some of Cameron's work before - mostly the science fiction stuff. I've never seen Titanic. See, I'm not one to fall for big movie must-see hype.
I have heard a lot of great things about it... that it's up there with Star Wars. I have too many boys not to see it. :-)

ReplyDeleteI'm notorious for not running to the theatre for a movie just because of the hype. I didn't evem see the new Star Trek for months after it premiered. I will wait and see what my blog buddies say about this movie before I run to see it. Let me know what you think.

ReplyDeleteStar Wars certainly has its place in our culture, but it was not particularily well written....so if Avatar is as good as Star Wars, ho mum - I can skip it, thank you.

But I loved it. I don't think the heavy-handed messages will convert anyone.

ReplyDeleteI wanted to see it but then I found out it's 2 hrs. 40 minutes and the dialog stinks. Eye candy for sure! Geesh, I'd have to pee at least twice with that long of a movie. *snicker*
ReplyDeleteCrazy4coens: Good point. Star Wars was not particularly well written (especially the prequels), but they still became a valid and constructive part of our culture.
ReplyDeleteI will have to wait and see about Avatar. As I said before, I've been a fan of Cameron's work in the past. Time will tell about this one.
