High BAC

Woman's Blood Alcohol Content Topples State Records

Marguerite Engle, 45, a South Dakota woman, had a blood-alcohol level of .708 percent when she was found passed out behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle.

The higest BAC ever recorded in a U.S. hospital was .74 percent.

What can I say but yikes!

  2. I have no idea how she survived it. Either the ethanol count was wrong or she has the constitution of a horse!

Happy New Year to you too.

  3. Yiikes! I can't help but think that some of that is due to all the stress people are under with the economy in such a mess.

  8. I have seen well into the 600's, we typically have to intubate those people. I don't think I have ever seen over 700.

As far as how she could live through it, it literally is simply practice. The body adapts to a high level of alcohol in people who routinely drink a lot. They are able to tolerate much more than the rest of us. I have seen people walking upright with BAL's that would likely kill one of us (approximately over 400).
