Bad Day x 1347

A pitbull was in his backyard in southern California , minding his own business, when a porcupine invaded his territory. The brave pit bull immediately challenged the porcupine!

Bad decision... The porcupine won this short contest.

A vet sedated the dog and then removed a total of 1,347 quills. The dog survived and has, hopefully, learned a valuable lesson.

Now, tell me you had a bad day!

[The BLOG note: This came to me via email from A.StC.W.]

  1. I had no idea they had that many quills. He must have been saving up for a long time. I hope the dog learned a lesson, but knowing some dogs, I wouldn't be so sure.

  2. That is incredible.

Jan, I don't now about this dog but we had to take a few quills (nothing near this) out of one of our dogs twice while camping when I was a kid.

  3. That is so sad. I wonder if he lost his eyes. I'm assuming he did.

  4. Jan: Me either. I don't have experience with porcupines. You're right about some dogs not learning their lessons.

Chuck: I can't believe the poor dog is walking around.

  5. Jen: I hope he didn't lose his eyes. It seems like the poor thing has suffered enough.

This is the down side of getting these stories in email. They rarely provide the full story.

  6. Does that dog still have eyeballs?

  7. brooke: This story made me curious enough to do a little research. I found more of the story on Snopes: The Porcupine and the Pit Bull

Turns out it was a female pit bull named Inca who had this run in in May 2005. As of July 2005, the dog was doing quite well. It doesn't mention her eyes, so I imagine they survived.

A pre-quilled photo of Inca can be found at Citytv message board . She is one of the Pappy Boyington pit bulls.

If anyone else knows anything more recent, please feel free to comment.

  9. Makes you wonder what happens to animals in the woods attacked by porcupines. Where is their vet to remove 1347 quills? Yikes!

  10. Gold was a solar metal, energy-giving; pomegranate carried similar connotations. Historians and Experts say that the value of treasure that is being found from the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple could be even much more than this.
