Managers Ask Drivers To Brake For Turtles As They Try To Cross Roads
If it isn't intuitively obvious to brake for turtles, then I propose a new sign:

It was crossing the road because of its own rational choice to do so. There cannot be a collective unconscious; desires are unique to each individual.

ReplyDeleteI can't believe the kind of nanny state we're morphing into when people can't deduce on their own mot to run over turtles crossing the road. To me, it's a no brainer. I mean, it's not like one is going to dart onto the road.
When I was a child, my father not only braked for turtles but also let me bring them home to keep for a while, then release.
ReplyDeleteThose captured box turtles lived the life of Riley: raw hamburger and fresh tomatoes and fresh strawberries from our huge 1-acre garden.
Years later, when my father was plowing a furrow, he had to stop to let a female turtle lay her eggs. Only very rarely does a human get to witness a box turtle laying her eggs.
Always On Watch: When we moved to Florida, our subdivision was surrounded by some undeveloped land. We often saw snapping turtles crossing the road and many times would find them walking in our yard. We would keep them for a bit and then release them.

Some asses will go out of their way to hit turtles, as they think it is funny.

I love turtles and I will stop the car to get one out of the road. Anything that lives longer than humans, deserves a break.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Ayn, I was on Amazon looking for a large type edition of Atlas Shrugged. No such luck and I realized that somewhere she was laughing at me...figuring an objectivist would say that if I can't read the typeface, too bad for me!
I saw a turtle the other day on the highway. He was just about to the other side...hope he made it.

Dorie: I think most people would avoid hitting any creature on the road, even ones that aren't so lovable such as a skunk.

ReplyDeleteAnanda Girl: I don't think the rule about not touching wild animals applies to turtles, but you're right about some people out there who do need a sign to tell them to brake for an animal.
What a world.
It takes about $500 to put up every bit of signage, right? Look around... there go your tax dollars...
