I find their response to fire the cartoonist interesting when the editorial staff approved it's going to press. Shouldn't they have fired the editor who allowed it? Cartoons are submitted and either accepted or rejected.
Beside that, the point of the cartoon isn't to cast racial slurs, its to point out that the media is racist and uses its own version of racial profiling.
Rarely does a victim of violent crime get the limelight. Usually all the hype is about the perpetrator and the victim is lost in the eyes of those who fight on behalf of the poor-abused-in-childhood criminal. Too bad that the sadness of the death of Trayvon Martin is only being used by the media as a ploy to stir up hatred and not an opportunity to for all the families who have lost loved ones to violent acts to say all victims have a story.
Silly Rabbit: I agree. The editorial staff should never have fired her and should have stood up for their editorial decision to print the cartoon. A little backbone on their part would've been good to see.
Granny Annie: Good point. Had calmer heads prevailed, the police and the legal system could've done their jobs quietly and allowed a modicum of justice to be meted out in this case.
So many misconceptions and outright lies have been spread that I don't know if that will be possible now.
