Got Grapes?

This is the latest crop of grapes from our grape vines...

It reminds me of an old joke:

A duck walks into a bar and asks, "Got grapes?"

The bartender, confused, tells the ducks that no, his bar doesn't serve grapes. The duck thanks him and leaves.

The next day, the duck returns and asks, "Got grapes?"

Again, the bartender tells him that, no, the bar does not serve grapes, has never served grapes, and, furthermore, will never serve grapes. The duck, a little ruffled, thanks him and leaves.

The next day, the duck returns, but before he can say anything, the bartender begins to yell: "Listen, duck! This is a bar! We do not serve grapes! If you ever ask for grapes again, I will nail your stupid duck beak to the bar!"

The duck looks at the bartender and asks, "Got nails?"

Surprised, the bartender says, “No, we don’t have any nails.”

“Good," the duck says, "Got grapes?”

It's an oldie but a goody.

  1. It's one I've shared before, but I know there are new people out there who haven't heard it.

  3. Cube - That is what I call a corny joke. And by the way - where does the expression 'corny' come from.
    :].

As I was growing up my dad had a grape arbor in our back yard. Not large but it yeilded a nice delicious crop of purple grapes.
He even tried his hand at making wine from it. Sometimes the wine was drinkable - sometimes not.

The boys in the neighborhood would sneak by and help themselves to the grapes when they were ripe.

  6. Sue Hanes: I thought it was a funny joke, but to answer your question, I think it derives from the way animals were fed on corn and, thus, being called corny was the way of calling someone unsophisticated.

These grapes aren't worth using. We use the grape leaves. And anyone sneaking into our yard would first have to deal with a German Shepherd and a Doberman and then deal with lousy grapes. Definitely not worth the effort.

  9. Silly Rabbit: The grapes are sour and they're full of seeds. We only care about the grape leaves.
