The whole point is that when a squirrel's weight hits the beyond-bird point, it triggers something that makes the bastwril and it makes the squirrel flip off. Does this make us squirrel racists?????
Does the base twirl when it feels too much weight on it? That would make sense. It's much easier to feed the tree rats along with the birds, keeps them from chewing on the caulking around the roof vents.
Kid: We're not feeding the squirrels, we're feeding the birds. I don't know if you know, but a bird has to eat it's weight every day. Basically, it wakes up and has to eat all day long, That's your life if you're a bird. Personally, I like to give birds some help with their food.
LL: Like my husband needs any ideas on that subject. He spent last weekend fixing the damage squirrels did burrowing into our attic. By today, which is Thursday, the little buggers had made significant damage to another part of our roof. It's unbelieable.
Messymimi: Absolutely. Unless you're an overweight bird, you won't trigger the twrilling mechanism. That's how it works. It's funny as all get out when you see a devious food sneaking squirrel spinning out of control.
Sandee: I didn't get it at first eitther, but this is how it works. If some critter, who's heavier than a bird, lands on the base, it immediately starts to spin and forces the critter off. I guess I'm easily amused, but watching two squirrels getting flinged off this thing made my day today.
We feed the birds. btw - the bird food at Costco is wonderful. They eat every thing that comes out of that bag. Red-white and mostly black bag. And I put extra peanuts in for the woodies and blue jays. We even feed the raccoons... Nobody goes hungry around here.
My sister and her husband keep up a running battle with squirrels and the bird feeder. My brother-in-law has built many a homemade contraption that has failed. I best pass this information on.

Granny Annie: So far, this feeder has been working. I've seen squirrels get to the feeding area, but they're hurled away before they can steal any birdseed. It's expensive, but it works.

ReplyDeleteHell yea. And the best way to protect your house against squirrel damage is feed the little suckers. Bird food, Peanuts, whatever.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to shoot them with a .22, or a pellet gun, the best way to get a clear shot is to lure them up there with the promise of food.
