Life Imitates Art

The above is a power loader operated by Warrant Officer Ripley in order to destroy the Alien Queen in the film "Aliens".

Above is The Method-2, A 1.6-ton, 13-foot Tall Robot Made By Hankook Mirae Technology In South Korea. The company says that a version of the Method-2 could one day be used for disaster relief or military operations... and possibly Alien Queens.

  2. Ever since Alien - I've wanted to drive a power loader just like the one Ripley operated and go toe-to-clawed toe with an alien just to see if I could pull it off. Now...who knows? Life does indeed imitate art.

  6. Well, that was something I first read a about in a sci fi series in Boys Life magazine in the 60s. Paul Anderson the author, I think.
    Awesome to see it done.

  7. If they can get Method-2 to run at 50 mph or greater and have it powered indefinitely like Russia's new Nuklar powered tom cruise missiles.... Let's get a million of them and ship them over to the ME.

  8. To quote Jiminy Cricket when he saw Pinocchio brought to life, “Man, what they can’t do these days!”

  10. Granny Annie: As a kid, I wanted a robot sidekick. Now I want one even more.

  11. LL: So have I. The Method-2 has balance problems, but I think they will be fixed in a matter of time.

  14. Ed Bonderenka: The idea has been percolating for a long time. I know that I'm not the only kid who grew up loving science fiction and wanting a robot sidekick.

  15. Kid: Sounds like a plan. The folks at Hankook Mirae need to get the bugs out of Method-2 ASAP.
I'd love to see an effort like the one we instituted for the Moon landing.
