A salp (Salpa fusiformis) is a planktonic tunicate that travels through the ocean by funnelling water through its clear body.

Wow.

No secrets in this little guy's life.

  2. Sandee: Those transparent critters can make themselves known. Salps don't have stinger cells (nematocysts) but jellyfish do. I was in chest-high water once when I saw orange vertical stripes and nothing else. It came up to me and BOOM I was stung. To this day I fear orange vertical stripes.

  5. Maybe Bill Cosby can sell them from his cell since he did so well with Jello. It might go like this:

(camera zooms between the bars for a close up of Cosby)

"Hi, I'm Bill Cosby and most of you know me as America's Dad. There used to be a statue of me at Disneyland. But I'm here to tell you about the nutritional value of salps. It's like Jello that tastes like fish."

    (Announcer takes over)

That's right Bill, and when you want to impress woman at a bar, slip her a salp, and let the fireworks begin.

  8. "Salps are planktonic tunicates." They are also spineless. The one pictured is named Anderson Cooper.
