Thank goodness. I've been hoping for this since the inception of Common Core. Anyone with two neurons could see this was a bad idea from the beginning.
I feel sorry for the poor kids who were used as guinea pigs for this idiotic notion.
I wonder about the parents who allowed their kids to be subjected to this madness.

ReplyDeleteActually, two conservative math teachers I know well said math was the only Common Core program that made sense. But, I'm SO BAD at math, it means zip to ME :-)
Still, if so many think it was bad (and I always thought it was conservatives just not wanting to give in to it), I'm glad it's gone there, too. Kid's right; I'm more worried that American kids are the only kids on the PLANET who are learning every day that America is not a great country...that's worse.

ReplyDeleteCommon Core, as a concept, started out as a guideline of what level of attainment (books read, math skills, etc) grade progression represented so that as kids parents moved them form state to state, they would not regress.

ReplyDeleteThe two problems i saw with Common Core are that first, it was not developed by classroom experienced teachers who know how children actually learn, and second, it teaches a child that if s/he can argue their point for their answer, then they are considered correct. In other words, there are no definitive correct answers, even in math. Talk about teaching kids foolishness, of course there are some things that are correct, and some things that are not. Liberals don't want the next generation to know that.
