Bird Poop Alert

These signs were posted along a stretch in downtown Orlando this week after cars, benches, sidewalks, plants and even people are hit and covered by the white bird waste, according to a Local 6 News report here .

The birds moved into the city and are covering everything between Lake Eola and Central Avenue with bird droppings.

"You have to brace yourself for the smell," downtown Orlando resident James Taylor told the Local 6 News. "It is a really bad stench. It is disgusting, absolutely disgusting."

Oh, the fun never ends here in Florida.

  1. I guess "bombs away" might be in order. Sorry to hear about your stink bombs.

  3. Yuck! Are they a new permanent thing, or will they just stick around until hurricane season?

  4. It strikes me as more than funny that they would put up those signs - as if the birds have taken up permanent bird pooping residence there.

  5. It looks like they have moved in forever. When well-meaning city workers cut down cypress trees on "Bird Island" because the bird poop was causing water pollution, it precipitated the birds' migration into beautiful downtown Orlando.

Another iatrogenic "solution" to a problem... no wonder they say the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

  6. Well, poop on them!

btw, we have a lot of goose poop here in Michigan. The Canadian geese have returned and they're havin' a honkin' good time all day and all night! It's a sure sign of spring. :-)

  8. Boy, James Taylor just keeps getting more sensitive all the time, doesn't he? Kinda needs to get over himself, I'd say.

  9. Are they sure the signs won't be misinterpreted by the birds as an actual directive?

  10. Looks like one more place I need to avoid cause of the smell!

  11. jgm: I imagine the bird poop is worse...up on the roof.

caz: It's a good thing birds don't read much. But you do make a good point...humans carrying a bird might interpret the sign as a directive to drop it there ;-)

  14. The tricky thing about nature is that a delicate balance that needs to be maintained. Obviously in Orlando, this delicate balance was upended by cutting down the cypress trees in Bird Island. Introducing predatory birds willy-nilly might cause a new set of unintended consequences.

Where I live, we have Coopers hawks & many cats. The bird population hasn't gotten out of control...yet.
