Stingray Attack

From the freak accident department... this story about a Lighthouse Point, Florida man in critical condition one day after authorities say a stingray jumped onto his boat and stabbed him in the chest, leaving a foot-long barb stuck in him.

Can you imagine how scary it would be to have a five-foot wide, 30 lb. stingray jumping into your boat?

Yikes, more fun from Florida's freakish creatures.

  1. I blogged this too! I'm skeptical now of the "freakish" tag they put on stingray attacks. Hmmm.

  2. Stingrays are deceptive critters. All these years we thought they were docile & gentle. Yeah, right.
They're killing machines! No one is safe.

BTW good to hear from you.

  4. i do however trust their instincts - they have a keenness humans haven't mastered. they said the fish started going crazy in hawaii moments before that earthquake recently.

i remember our dog would go nutz before an earthquake as a child growing up in san diego.

it also gets extremely quiet outside here in arkansas right before a tornado. animals know...

  6. No need for a barb to go through my chest, as I would have a heart attack immediately!

  7. Hmm... First Irwin, now this guy...

They're trying to take over the world, one human at a time!

  8. the bible alludes to the fact that the beasts of the earth will be turned loose at the end of days. could this be a prelude?

the ocean is the ONLY earthly thing i have a healthy fear of and i grew up at the beach!

  9. nanc: I can't blame you for fearing the ocean... with red tide, sharks, and now the lethal stingrays, I'm not too happy with the ocean myself.

I can't speak to Biblical prophesy, but I do know that I will redouble my efforts to find a heater for my new pool.

  10. Poor stingrays, I hope they know that the media is hyping them up. They need to have a commitee meeting and get some issues resolved.

No but really, that is sad to hear of this event.

  11. I read somewhere that this is the stingray revenge for the violence perpetrated on stingrays for the killing of Steve Irwin.

They were slaughtered in large numbers...

  12. I heard a report about this on the radio as I was driving home from school. If I had been the 911 operator, my first thought would be that it was a hoax, coming so shortly after Irwin's horrid mishap. I hope the guy who was stung fully recovers. What a scare!!!
