Shamu Attacks

A trainer was injured during a show Wednesday at SeaWorld Adventure Park in San Diego after Shamu the killer whale grabbed his foot and pulled him underwater twice, authorities said.

The 39-year-old man was taken to a hospital and was listed in good condition. Fox News has a lame video here .

We are keeping a close eye on our own Shamu for the foreseeable future ;-)

  2. Yes, emphasis on the word "killer". We'll have to keep babies and dogs out of the pool ;-)

  4. Well they are all still wild animals and can never be too sure they wont attack.

I only petted the dolphins head a bit at seaworld, thats as far as I would ever go.

  5. There is no amount of money that could get me to swim in a tank with a killer whale.

I have however swam(sp?) with Leopard Sharks at La Jolla Cove, California!

    Have a great day!

  6. Rain- The sea lions in San Fran are attacking swimmers, and the idiots are blaming themselves, and go back to swimming in the same place!
My 8 1/2 years there cured me of ever going back!
When you deal with wild animals, you must treat them with respect and respect their abilities. This isn't romping through the meadows with the butterflies, heck even rabbits can disembowel a dog.

  7. I was in water up to my chest & fishing at a St. Pete & started to notice a bunch of baby sharks around me. I began to count them and once I hit #24, I decided to get myself back to shore pronto!

You don't mess with wild animals.

  9. Cube- A very wise decision! If it was me, I'd hit about 4 and decide discretion is the better part of valor!
Nanc-The ditches have gators! And anyone who uses crank is starting at a disadvantage, they are lacking brains!

  12. tmw: they were baby sharks. When I caught one on the fishing line, my daughter wanted to hold it. I let her & it gave a big jerk in her hands. When I went to grab it back, the shark's open mouth fell onto my finger & tore the skin. Since then, I can truthfully say I survived a shark bite ;-)

  15. News report here noted that the SeaWorld in question had "about seven killer whales".

    "About"????

Most people would keep a pretty tight handle on the number of killer whales under their care, if for no other reason than to ensure that catering requirements are never, ever under estimated.

  16. Talking about attacks, A fifteen year old boy had his leg bitten off by a White Pointer Shark, while surfing off the coast of Esperance( country town down south of my state, Western Australia) yesterday.

Luckily a quick thinking New Zealand couple tied an extension cord around his leg to staunch the flow of blood.

The young guy had been surfing with friends in the Duke of Orleans Bay about 30 m from the beach when the shark attacked.

Those White Pointers are mean critters all right!

  17. caz: Luckily, our Shamu is easily foiled. We just let the air out of her ;-)

I hear you about the fuzzy number of killer whales... fuzzy whales don't come in fuzzy quantities!

  18. kathy: Poor kid. He's lucky to be alive. I hear you guys have a really bad shark problem in OZ. Worse than we have here in Florida.
