Top 10 Dog Breeds

My beloved German Shepherds only made it to number three on the list. See where your favorites ended up...

The American Kennel Club Lists The Top 10 Most Popular Dog Breeds In America

Honestly, I'm shaking my head at some of these choices...

  1. Truman and I agree wholeheartedly with the top pick. :)

But I also agree with you! Nothing that wears a bow to keep its hair out of its eyes should be on this list. Those are not dogs, those are accessories.

  2. You mean, like the Yorkshire Terrier? That's a bizarre choice, if you ask me.

  3. Be glad that the GSD is maintaining his position. They are such great dogs and mostly bred by responsible breeders, not puppy mills. If they get really popular the puppy millers can move in and run the breed.

Ahem, I hope you aren't referring to Poodles there.

  4. jenny: I knew you would be happy about the top pick. I agree about so many foo-foo dogs being in the top ten. What is up with that?

zydeco: I think the Shih Tzu was my biggest complaint. I'm not a fan of long haired dogs. I usually like Yorkies. I'm not sure why they pictured a Yorkie with the longest hair I've ever seen.

  5. jan: I love dogs & I'm all for good breeding standards. I'm just not sure what their criteria was for this list.

And, no, the poodles are not included in my foo-foo dog group. They may have a reputation as being such among those not in the know, but I know that they're smart and tough dogs.

  6. I wasn't surprised to see labs as numero uno.
We currently do not have any pets. Our dear Simba died over a year ago. She was a mastiff. She and Gunther (also a mastiff) were great dogs!!

  7. My home insurance company has a list of dog's that I'm not allowed to own or they'll cancel my policy. German Shepherds are on the banned list for some reason, which bugs me because they really are good dogs.

  8. darrell: That is just wrong. German Shepherds are noble, obedient, big-hearted dogs. Where does that officious insurance company get off?

  9. For that matter, where is the chihuahua on this list? They're tiny, but they're awesome dogs.

  10. WTFrick is up with that insurance company? It isn't the dog, it's the idiot owner! Responsible owners should not be punished, and especially not the breed!

My Standard Poodle made the list, I see! However, my Dane thinks that the results were fraudulent and believes the dogs on the list were selected and not elected. ;)

  11. brooke: I agree. They shouldn't punish the breed because of inept
    owners.

I'm beginning to agree with your Great Dane. An anti-Chihuahua bias is evident among the selectors.
