Maurading Mystery Monkey Nabbed

It was a long run, but all good things must come to an end...

Mystery Monkey Caught After Two Years On The Lam

I watched an interview on a local news channel where the woman (who was bitten by the monkey) and her daughter admitted that they were going to miss having him hanging around their yard.

The woman had just returned from her last round of rabies shots on Wednesday when the rhesus macaque was hit with a tranquilizer dart and captured by Florida Fish and Wildlife officials.

Here in Florida, gators are a dime a dozen, but rhesus macaques are rare indeed.

  1. Cube - I'm sorry to hear that the woman had to get rabies shots. I hear those are very painful.

Your story reminds me of the movie Outbreak.

  2. Back in the day, rabies vaccines were administered in the stomach and were very painful.

Nowadays the regime consists of 5 doses given in the arm, like a flu shot, over a period of 14 days.

It also reminds me of the monkey rage from the movie "28 Days Later."

  3. The story also reminds me of "Outbreak" and "28 Days Later".

Ouch. I'm not a fan of getting shots. Especially not that many.

  4. I guess I would call that Stockhome Syndrome.

  5. I've always wondered if the little monkey had a following to preserve his freedom.

  6. Teresa: I hate shots too. I was just pointing out that rabies shots are less painful now than they used to be.

Munir: There definitely were people who were rooting for the monkey. He even has a Facebook page.

Jan: He had a following alright. Like I told Munir, he even had a Facebook page.

  7. Woodsterman (Odie): They used to be given in the stomach. Nowadays they're more like flu shots... not that I like any kind of shot.

  8. I have been nipped once by a dog. But I have been bitten... drawing blood... three times by monkeys. I could not have gone outside with a monkey hanging out in my yard. Yikes!

  9. Silly Rabbit: I love animals, but monkeys are my least favorite of them all. I know some of them can be sweet, but they can also be very nasty.

The burning question I have is how in the world did you get around monkeys enough to get bitten by them 3 times... twice I can understand, but thrice? ;-)

Is this going to rival my surviving a shark bite story? ;-)
