New Florida Law Punishes Fake Service Animals
It's now against the law in Florida to pretend your pet is a service pet.
I never really thought about this problem until we were eating at the Village Inn when a guy walked in with a Doberman. Being owners of a Doberman ourselves, we wondered why this man picked a Doberman for a service dog since they're not the smartest dogs... well, at least ours isn't.
This dog was well behaved until he PEED ON THE FLOOR!
Real service dogs don't do that.

There are lots of dogs that are being touted as service dogs that aren't. It's an easy way to have your dog with you anywhere you go. Bless their hearts.

I now here there are strict regulations for service dogs, they are so special aren't they and so clever and essential to those that need them.

Sandee: I'm not against people wanting their pets with them, but service animals are trained to behave well around others. If you have an animal who isn't an actual service animal and, therefore, not well-trained, you're not doing those people that need the service animal any good.

Stevebethere: I know. I can't believe there are such nasty, evil people that would exploit a disability, but they're everywhere. Scamming is a way of life for many.

ReplyDeleteThe law probably won't stop all offenders but it should make them think about it. It's a law way overdue.

ReplyDeleteJan: No law stops all offenders, but it does have a chilling effect for those of us who have at least two neurons in our brains and one of them isn't inhibitory.

ReplyDeleteThe hotel associated with the place Sweetie works doesn't allow pets, except service animals. So some of the rich ladies get their doctors to designate their own little dogs as their service animals for anxiety, so they can bring them. It's a problem, because the dogs are spoiled and not well trained and it's just the rich ladies wanting their small, designer dogs that they carry in their bags with them everywhere.
ReplyDeleteWhile they were not specifically trained to do it, one deaf lady had two cats that realized she was deaf and would come get her whenever the doorbell rang, or the dryer buzzed, or the baby cried. They were great!

Kathe W.: I didn't know the cheating was such a big problem. I shouldn't be surprised at all the hey-they-look-healthy-enough-to-walk-from-a-regular-parking-space-to-me people who park in handicapped spaces. Some people have no shame.

ReplyDeleteAlways On Watch: I know from experience that cats can be very smart. I was sitting in our second story college apartment once when I noticed my cat staring intently out the window. I got up to look and saw some bonehead stealing the gas out of our car's gas tank in broad daylight. I wouldn't have known if I hadn't noticed her alert.

ReplyDeleteIt's a fine and some community service hours if they can prove it. There are many places online that fraudulently sell the service animal vests. I don't know how some people sleep at night when they spend their day doing something like that.

I've been busy with family stuff, so it took me until this afternoon to finally get something together. Yes, BBQ's and fireworks are great, but my feelings are that if we want to keep this glorious democratic republic going beyond its 239 years, we need to make some changes.
