Eyes Open, People

My husband watched dear leader's oval office address last night, and this morning he was even more adamant about me and our daughters' welfare in a soft target area.

No surprises there... situational awareness, following the OODA loop cycle (observe, orient, decide and act) developed by military strategist and USAF Colonel John Boyd. That is worth looking into.

I grew up in New York City and developed a big city-hardened situational awareness. When I moved to Florida in 1968, my caution was looked upon as a bit of a paranoid over-reaction by some. Still, I couldn't scrub it out of my psyche even if I wanted to, and so I didn't. I locked my cars in my car port and had several locks on my doors.

...but I worry about my daughters and all the other soft targets there are in America today. How open are their eyes?

How open are yours?

  1. I grew up in a town where we seldom locked our doors. Going through police volunteer training academy was valuable for the times we live in today.

  3. Jan: I would've loved to grow up where you did, but I grew up fighting not to end up at the bad end of a swirly. I learned the hard way, but I fear that I made it too easy for my girls.

  4. Messymimi: I think most of us agree that we need to do that, but where do we start?

  6. Well, things are worse today than they were last year, and the year before, and the year before that, and the year before that and the decade before that. Sanity tells us it is going to get a lot worse before it even thinks about getting better.

  7. What Kid said. We have to be prepared to be our own first responders.

  9. Kid: And thanks to the boy king, Putt, there's no chance of improvement any time soon.

  11. DaBlade: Nobody wants to be in a life or death scenario, but we're going to have to steel ourselves to the fact that we may very well have to defend our lives. I may go down, but I vow to take at least one of those goat f*****s with m
