Our beloved Kinky went missing Wednesday. We searched the area and we searched online. I filed a missing cat report with the local animal shelter and printed up a flyer in the hopes that she had been picked up...
Yesterday my husband found her body not even 10 feet from where I'm sitting now... lying in the hedge by the front porch. Her tortoiseshell coat proved to be an effective camoflage because we walked right past her many times and didn't see her.
It's been an awful year for us. We lost our Doberman Maxine in March, our cat Felix in April, and now Kinky.
Kinky was a wonderful cat who loved her human family, but she favored me with a dog-like devotion that I've never experienced with any other cat. She wasn't driven by food like most cats, she was driven by love. Every morning she expected to be picked up and she was never shy about asking for it. If I didn't take the time to pick her up, I'd get her "flying kitty" move where she'd leap onto my chest. She was the Queen of the house and she would not be denied.
I already miss her dearly.
Oh I know this pain. I'm so very sorry. They embed themselves so deeply in our hearts and they never stay long enough.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. We've been through this so many times. I know it never gets easier. It usually gets harder. Some of the kids passings are harder to deal with too. It sounds like Kinky was one of the harder ones. Sincere condolences. She was a beauty.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm aware on the other side, I'm sure there are some of our cats that I will want to talk to even before family members. I hope Kinky didn't suffer much and it doesn't sound like she did.
We had a Calico leave us after 17 years. We were happy to be able to comfort her in her final hours.
Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your beloved Kinky. It hurts so much when we lose them, no matter how long we've had them.

ReplyDeleteSandee: I know you know the pain we're going through. Little Bit lives in your heart and I'm telling myself Kinky lives in mine. Emotions are still pretty raw, and I keep thinking she'll turn up on the carport or right around the corner at supper like she always did. We're all hoping that time will assuage the hurt somewhat.

ReplyDeleteKid: I've had many cats in my life, but Kinky's loss was THE hardest I've ever experienced. She had been vomiting her food and we took her to two different vet offices and her blood work was normal both times. The second vet changed her food to Royal Canin hydrolyzed food and we were overjoyed that she improved. Then she went missing on Nov.2nd and my husband found her body the next day. It hurts that she died alone.

ReplyDeleteZ: When she went missing on Nov. 2nd we knew it was something bad. You don't have a cat for 13 years and not know its habits. We have made arrangements to pick up her ashes at our local vet's office.

ReplyDeleteCats do like to go off by themselves when the time comes. Like Indians. Some of ours - we were able to comfort in the final hours, and some not. I'm much happier when we can spend that time with them, pet them, keep them hydrated, etc. I think the last one we lost appreciated it, but I also think she was off in her own world too and may not have known we were there.

Kid: I think that you totally understand our loss. We took Kinky to two different vets and they both found her blood was normal. We thought she was getting better with her new food regimen, but her death was sudden. I wish I could've been with her at her 'end. I'll always feel like I let her down during her death. That's never going to change,
