One of the things we did during our recent vacation was drove up Mt. Washington... all 6,288 feet of it.
Mr. Cube drove. I cringed. Personally, I like guard rails...

And yes, at the summit we got a bunch of bumperstickers, t-shirts, magnets, pens, shot glasses, and a mug.
My personal favorite is a pin that reads, "I survived Mt Washington Auto Road"
I'm glad I did it once.
i hate these kind of road trips - my husband took us through lassen volcanic park once and it was all i could do to maintain ANY sense of sanity. no, i've not been the same since...

That is a sweet road, kind of reminds me of the twisty, switchback-full Road to Hana on Maui. Yikes!

ReplyDeleteI did the Continential Divide drive once, looking down over no guardrails, seeing very tiny toothpicks which were, in truth, the tops of extremely tall trees waaaaaaaay "down there".

Cube: "Intervention" is in the same series. As as hardcover, it is one book "Intervention". As paperbacks, it is two books: "Surveillance" and "Metaconcert".
ReplyDeleteIt is part of the same series. I think the first written books, "Saga of Pliocene Exile", are really one of the two best science fiction series of all time. After she wrote those, she wrote the "Intervention" book/books, which are chronologically the earliest in the series, starting with the very first operant Remillards sometime in the mid 20th century.
The "Galactic Milieu Trilogy" was written after this, and chronologically takes place not longer after "Intervention" ended.
I thought "Intervention" was better than "Galactice Milieu".

Looking at that website, I can see why you were wishing you had guard rails. Beautiful, but a bit nerve racking. I wouldn't recommend that drive to a lush.
