Taco Bell: Our Beef Mixture Is Seasoned Meat

I read where a former Taco Bell worker said the "beef" is beef fat, caramel coloring, and soy bean meal pushed through an extruder to create the shape.

Not exactly comforting news...

  1. That's not as bad as the old McDonald's rumor that their burgers were ground worms.

  2. This is from someone who purports to have worked for Taco Bell.

  3. I figured it wasn't all beef but this? But, I am a bit skeptical as to whether the former Taco Bell worker is actually telling the truth or just out to make a buck. We'll see...

  4. You mean Taco Bell food isn't really healthy?

  5. I can't vouch for what they use now, but back around 1990/91 ish, the ground beef Taco Bell used was in fact actual beef. I worked there and my job was to fry it.

  6. Teresa: The law suit is going forward because they state that TB doesn't rise to the USDA level of 40% beef in their products. It isn't based on the former Taco Bell employee's statement which I quoted.

The truth will eventually come out in court.

  8. Tammy: Thanks for sharing your specific knowledge of the event.

Personally, I love Taco Bell food. I can't wait to see how this law suit business ends.

  9. I've heard that Taco Bell is the absolute lowest quality meat suitable for human consumption.

Its still tasty though. Probably all of that delicious salt!

  10. I had heard what Brooke had heard - also have heard that Jack in the Box's tacos are fish and soy. Yumm!

  11. Did that article say 40% FRESH meat? Only? That makes me queasy.

  12. crazy4coens: What a blast from the past. Back in my college days, the only fast food place open near the university was Jack in the Box.

The drive thru got a lot of hungry college students in the wee hours not really caring what was in the food... me included.

I haven't seen another Jack in the Box ever since.

  13. MK Chang: You read right. The USDA has a minimum requirement of 40% fresh meat.

  14. I actually completely believe that. It won't stop me from eating there, though, ha ha ha.
