Quantum Superposition

Scientists Teleport Schrodinger's Cat

Well, not exactly a cat, but researchers from Australia and Japan have completed the first-ever teleportation of wave packets of light from one point to another - a first step towards quantum computing and communication.

Woot!

  1. Quantum Sheer Ignorance from me, sorry! I admire your interest in science, physics, etc. It's not my gift, I assure you:-)
    But the cat's cute!

  3. Z: Glad you liked the cat. He is cute even if he's just a thought experiment.

To give you an appreciation of how big this will someday be... imagine a bit of information that in a computer now exists in binary form, either 0 or 1. With quantum computing, that same bit will exist in both states, superposition, which will allow vast amounts of data exchange at very high rates of speed.

  4. So, when do I get my telepod? I really need to start getting to work on time.

  5. BeckEye: Unless you've morphed into a packet of light, you're going to have to give it some time.

  6. Isn't it amazing? The cats dead and alive. Electrons being two places at once. Quantum mechanics, if nothing else, reminds us of how little we know about the universe. Now batting, nunber 11, string theory!

  7. WHOA! How awesome!

I think I've just been blinded by science!

  8. love the poster! I remember reading a book called Schrodinger's Cat... I think it's one of the things that got me into weird science. That and the article on chocolate I read around the same time. :)

  10. Kawanio che keekeru!

"Song for St. Tamminy s Day." - The Old Song.

Of Andrew, of Patrick, of David, & George,
    What mighty achievements we hear!
While no one relates great Tammany's feats,
Although more heroic by far, my brave boys,
    Although more heroic by far.

These heroes fought only as fancy inspired,
    As by their own stories we find;
Whilst Tammany, he fought only to free,
From cruel oppression mankind, my brave boys,
    From cruel oppression mankind.

"When our country was young and our numbers were few
To our fathers his friendship was shown,
(For he e'er would oppose whom he took for his foes),
And made our misfortunes his own, my brave boys,
And he made our misfortunes his own.
"At length growing old and quite worn out with years,
    As history doth truly proclaim,
His wigwam was fired, he nobly expired,
And flew to the skies in a flame, my brave boys,
And flew to the skies in a flame.
