Pavlov's Cats?

My husband compelled me to watch this hilarious cat video. I found the video incredibly funny, but I would've called it more Skinner's operant conditioning than Pavlo's classical conditioning. That's just me.

Please don't let the science keep you from enjoying how these kitteh's antics and how their precious pumpkin hats made my October day.

  1. More Skinner than Pavlov and smarter than dogs, the dogs never did learn to ring the bell, did they? Loved this video.

  2. Jan: Do I connote some dog bias in your comment, I wonder? Mayhaps I do, but it's all good. I'm glad you liked the video. Me, I can't pick a favorite, I love both so very much.

  3. Loved the one on the left who was an equal opportunity bell ringer. Mine not working fast enough? I'll just bang yours.

  9. Yes, it was a Skinner experiment, however, I can't help but wonder whether or not there was catnip or other powerful cat-inducement in the food? We'll never know, but it was funny.

I'm thinking of doing something like that with my 26 year old daughter, who likes chocolate. Or my grandson (6) who likes peanut M&M's. Would they be as cool as the cats? Likely not, they'd just get up and fetch the chocolate rather than ringing the bell for Dad/Grandpa.

  11. LL: OK, I'm going to mix some metaphors here... you are barking up S***'s creek without a tree limb ;) There is no way your daughter and grandchild are going to ring any bells for you other than by being the best thing you could ever imagine. Enjoy them and the chocolate.
