Camille's Camisado

Camille Paglia skewers the usual suspects and some surprising ones (for a liberal) in her latest column in Slate...

Don't Run, Al. Don't!

I don't always agree with Paglia, but her work always makes for enjoyable reading.

It's safe to say that Christopher Hitchins is my favorite communist and Camille Paglia is one of my favorite liberals.

She doesn't pull punches and I admire that... even if I don't admire her politics.

I would suggest reading Paglia's comments again.

The entire piece is nothing but Paglia and her thoughts and feelings. There are no facts or statements to back up any of her comments. She just doesn't like Gore and wants to call him names.

"Gore is a mass of frustrated yearnings and self-defeating vacillation."

Who says? What reason would she have to call him "self-defeating"? When has Gore "vacillated"?
He has been pretty steadfast about his opposition to the Iraq war (something he stood up and said in 2003 BEFORE the war started).

"I dislike the way that Gore's preachy, apocalyptic fundamentalism has fomented an atmosphere of hysteria around this issue and potentially compromised the long-term credibility of environmentalism."

This comment is just plain stupid. EVERY CREDIBLE SCIENTIST ON EARTH believes that global warming is a serious problem and needs to be dealt with as fast as possible. He has done MORE with just his little power point movie than Bush has done in over 6 years. Just because she uses words like "hysteria" and "preachy" doesn't make her right.

Just more uninformed blathering from the lazy media. This has been going on for years, and it is why America currently is run by a man who is completely unqualified to be President.

She's clearly not a moron.

Only the Shillest, blindest of the liberal fold refuse to see that Al is too polarizing. The left may as well hand the office over to the GOP if they put Gore on the ticket.

chrism70: I find Paglia's writing entertaining. And I know enough facts about algore to know that Paglia is spot on with her analysis. SPOT ON!

brooke: The inventor of the Internet and master of linguistic styles & accents is making too much money lecturing about single-handedly saving the planet.

Cube,
There are no FACTS in Paglia's story - that's my point. It's only her opinions about what she thinks she sees in Al Gore.

BTW, when did republicans start whining about people actually making money? Isn't that capitalism? Isn't that what America is all about? Also, Gore never said he invented the internet, but he did author legislation that made it available to you and me. Just think, every time you write your vicious "I hate Gore" screeds on your blog, you have Gore to thank!

Brooke,
Gore is too polarizing? He won the POPULAR VOTE in 2000. He has brought a TON of worthwhile attention to the global warming issue. People are just upset that he's "straight-shootin' and plain spoken" like the incompetent currently holding office. Perhaps you should start looking to see if someone is competent rather than how he looks on TV.

chrism70: It's time you got over the fact that Gore lost the 2000 election.

ChrisM70 said...

Gore didn't LOSE...the supreme court GAVE the White House to the Republicans. The votes show that Gore should have won.

And you're right...I'm sure if Gore had taken office in 2000 that the U.S. would be stuck in an expensive, deadly war with no good options with the entire world hating us. I'm sure he also would be spying on citizens and torturing people too.

I guess it doesn't matter who the president of the U.S. is...

chrism70: See, you're still not over Gore's LOSS of the 2000 election. You really need to move on.

ChrisM70 said...

Ok then.
Let's move on to our current situation...

How about the terrible, expensive, deadly and mis-managed war we're currently stuck in with no possible ending in sight?

How about the dangers of global warming?

How about the story released just this week about all the soldiers coming back from Iraq with MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES - and there aren't enough doctors to deal with it! Mission Accomplished!

How about the constant scandals coming from the current corrupt and incompetent administration?
Libby, Gonzales, Rove, DeLay, etc., etc., etc....

You don't want to TALK about issues...
you just want to call people names, and deflect from the terrible mess that the current administration has put us in.

You can live in the past, but for my future, I want someone competent. Someone who saw this coming - like Al Gore.
