Pez-travaganza

Purely by accident, I found an extensive assortment of obscure Pez dispensers at MonsterCellar.com including one of the Great Garloo, pictured above.

I was too young to remember the Great Garloo in person, but I do remember some of the other toys designed by Marvin Glass, including Ants in the Pants, Dynamite Shack, Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots, Hands Down, Haunted House, Lite Brite, Odd Ogg, Operation, Mouse Trap, Time Bomb, Tip-It, and Toss Across, among others.

The Great Garloo remote controlled robot toy video, a real hoot just for the 1961 pop culture blast from the past, is available HERE via BoingBoing.

The marketing firms were working on kids even way back then. Some things never change.

Hill's Pill

Clinton Can Control Her Husand

My favorite excerpt:

When ABC News' Cynthia McFadden asked Hillary if she could control her husband, Hillary replied, "Oh, of course."

lol!

Obviously, that depends on what the meaning of 'control' is.

Look Out

Look at this little guy's eyes.

Yikes. What did he see?

Dropping Out

It's the end of the road for the campaigns of Rudy Guiliani and John Edwards...

I'm hoping Mike Huckabee drops out next.

Sweet Caroline

From the American Spectator comes a blistering account of Caroline's essay endorsing Obama by Jay D. Homnick:

Taking Kennedy From A Baby

Here's my favorite excerpt:

Decoded that reads: "Bill Clinton met my father in the White House and built his entire life around the dream of becoming president and inspiring people the same way. Instead he got to the White House and laid a large egg. The last thing I need is for Mrs. Egg to take over. Now this Obama, he is a different story. He just might be the guy."

Bwa ha ha ha.

I Voted

And I wear my sticker proudly.

Cubeology

A recent cube sighting.

McPain

Who's Afraid Of John McCain? asks Kyle-Anne Shiver in The American Thinker and concludes that it is the Clintons who fear him.

What?

I think Shiver left out a third possibility C: the Clintons are calculatingly trying to arrange the easiest opponent for themselves to beat.

Clinton Lied, People Died?

Ten years ago tomorrow, Clinton gave this speech about Saddam's nuclear weapons. Why is it that President Bush gets all the blame when everyone and their grandmother believed Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

No more Clinton. Please. No more.

Rezko Who?

Hillary Clinton Once Photographed With Obama's 'Slum Landlord'

When Hillary was asked about meeting disgraced real estate developer Tony Rezko, she said she doesn't remember meeting him and wouldn't know him if he walked in the door.

This merits an investigation. If Rezko was a Bill Clinton contributor, I'd like to know how much he paid in order to pose with them in the photo that's blasted on the top of the Drudge Report.

I think Hillary is showing symptoms of C.R.S. Syndrome - Can't Remember S**t. Look how often she can't recall events. I think it might behoove her to get involved with this study that fights symptoms of dementia, such as forgetfulness:

The Helmet That Could Turn Back The Symptoms Of Alzheimer's

The strange-looking headgear - which has to be worn for ten minutes every day - bathes the brain with infra-red light and stimulates the growth of brain cells.

Don't you think Hillary could use a few more brain cells?

No Clowns

News Flash: Children don't like clowns. Or so have researchers from the University of Sheffield concluded in their recent study reported in the Nursing Standard magazine.

Don't Send In The Clowns

They had to do a study to figure this out?

***Warning: don't watch this video if you hate creepy clown dances***

World's Shortest Personality Test

nanc dared me to take this silly internet quiz, so here goes:

Your Personality Profile

You are elegant, withdrawn, and brilliant.
Your mind is a weapon, able to solve any puzzle.
You are also great at poking holes in arguments and common beliefs.

For you, comfort and calm are very important.
You tend to thrive on your own and shrug off most affection.
You prefer to protect your emotions and stay strong.

Suzanne Pleshette 1937-2008

I know the news is full of Heath Ledger's sudden death, but I didn't want to let the death of Suzanne Pleshette pass without a small mention here.

Pleshette, best known for her role as Bob Newhart's wife on television's long-running "The Bob Newhart Show," died last Saturday, just days before a ceremony honoring her with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Rest in peace.

Iconic Liberty

Everyone has no doubt seen the image of the Statue of Liberty in the ads for the new horror movie Cloverfield

Well, Lady Liberty has been used an iconic image in science fiction for many years.

Blogger Gerry Canavan has a fascinating collection, including this one from a 1985 book cover that is "eerie-in-retrospect"...

I had no idea there were so many.

Poe Toaster?

Everyone knows the tradition: Since 1949, every year on Edgar Allan Poe's birthday, a mysterious (uncloaked) figure leaves a half-bottle of cognac and three red roses on Poe's grave...

Poe Toaster

My question is, did it happen this year? Does anyone know?

Maila Nurmi 1921-2008

Maila Nurmi, aka Vampira, passed away in her sleep January 10th at age 86.

Her Vampira, the inspiration for Cassandra Petersen's "Elvira", was itself inspired by Charles Addams' Morticia.

If you're interested, a bio and some creepy old videos of Vampira can be found at Wonderful Wonderblog.com

RIP, Vampira.

Zippergate

Ten years ago today Matt Drudge posted a story that ripped the lid off the most sensational scandal season in the history of the American presidency.

Oral history: The Monica Lewinsky Scandal Ten Years On

Remember Monica?

"Every time (the president) talks about trust it makes chills run up and down my spine. The very idea that the word 'trust' could ever come out of his mouth after ... the way he has trampled on the truth is a travesty of the American political system." -- Bill Clinton in 1992 speaking about George Bush (41)

Some things never change...

Cheesehead!

Santorum: McCain Presidency Very Dangerous

I agree.

Look at this way, if the MSM is pushing for McCain, you should be hearing red alert claxons going off in your head.

Don't get me wrong, there is much to respect about John McCain, I just think the Republicans can do better.

Clinton History

NY Times' Matt Bai seems surprised at the Clintons' "latest turn into ugliness"...

The Clintons and History

What? Has he been living in some parallel universe?

Lucianne.com poster uno doesn't hold back:

"History shows that Bill Clinton is a draft-dodging, tax-evading, dope-smoking, coke-sniffing, drug dealing, money-laundering, pants-dropping, weenie-wagging, masturbating, wife-cheating, nipple-twisting womanizing serial rapist, finger wagging liar, bicycle seat-sniffing trailer park troll and despicable, self-serving, power grabbing, money grubbing thief who was convicted of perjury, impeached and disbarred!
Then along with his criminal business partner Hillary they managed to turn the Whitehouse into a Motel 6 brothel by selling the Lincoln bedroom to the highest bidder and continue to this day selling the Presidency of the United States of America for your own personal and political gain! The absolute corruption of both of these creatures is permanently mounted, nailed, screwed and glued into their souls and is only exceeded by their unbridled greed and lust for power at any cost. Now THAT’s history!"

lol!

I enjoyed that comment more than the article.

Hill's King Sized Blunder

Clinton and Obama, Johnson and King

The excerpt that caught my eye was this one:

Hill said, "Dr. King's dream began to be realized when President Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act," and later added, "It took a president to get it done."

It's good for Hill that so few democrats watch FOX News.

Yikes, and only 2 weeks away from MLK Day.
