Cat License

No, it's not Friday, but I couldn't resist sharing this bit of insanity from Massachusetts...

Having More Than 3 Cats Now Requires A License

The town of Dudley has voted to add language to a town bylaw that will make it illegal to own more than three cats without a kennel license, though Selectman Steven Sullivan said housing three felines was already a violation.

So, if your cat gives birth to a litter of kittens, you are in violation of the law in this town of cat-hating boobs.

This is governmental tyranny, folks.

Will people have to resort to cat camoflage in order to avoid incurring excessive taxation and fines?

Normally I would insert a snarky remark such as, "only in Massachusetts", but with today's state of affairs, it can happen in your town too.

I watch a lot of Animal Planet, so I think this is a pretty good idea. You wouldn't believe how many crazy hoarders are around.

What? What? What? There are laws on the books against crazy cat hoarders. Since when is having 3 cats considered a hoard?

I think this idiotic law stems from overly-officious busybodies who are looking for any way to impose their will on the citizenry and get their hands on additional tax revenue while they're at it.

Oh my gosh... I don't dare show this post to my neighbors or they would jump right on the bandwagon for limiting cats. They wanted to make a rule that you have to keep your cat in your own yard! As if cats will follow that rule. This is nuts.

This whole thing is silly. Why not 4, 8, or 10? Why do they get to decide how many cats someone has?

As far as soemone having too many, what is too many? My daughter has 3and I think that is 3 too many. Try convincing her of that though.

What if someone has say 50? If they are in their house and the mess is contained, what business is it of ours really?

I think it would be disgusting and unhealthy but why does the state have a responsibility to protect them from themeselves?

If it becomes a public issue that is different. If it isn't, then leave them alone until it is.

This whole thing is born from government officials having an overwhelming need to control citizens lives.

Ananda Girl: I'm all for smaller
government. Worry about safeguarding the country and the integrity of the infrastructure before you start going after people for having 3+ cats.

This is government gone wild.

Ananda Girl: Right. As if someone could herd cats.

Chuck: Exactly. Like your super-enlightened daughter, I happen to have 3 cats myself. They are all spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and otherwise healthy.

I would balk at the notion of any government trying intrude into my life to the extent that they want to tax me on the number of cats I decide to own.

First they come for your cats, what is next?

It seems like every day I think what's next and the next day is something even stupider.

I have a friend who takes in stray cats and works to find them permanent homes. She has had as few as three and as many as nine in her home. If not for her we all know what would have happened to them.

Jan: I agree. I've been having the falling-into-the-rabbit-hole feeling myself and must tell you that WTF? occurs to me often.

They're taxing us at usury rates as it is so I balk at them coming at me for something else that is none of their business.

It's about revenue... if they license it, they get the fees and fines.

But for me it's about freedom. Yes, you should not have cats that you do not care for properly. But who says you could not care for 4 cats properly unless you bought a piece of paper from them... and how does that license guarantee decent treatment of the cats. So what exactly is the point other than to force others to your way of thinking?

Ananda Girl: I totally agree with your comment.

I don't want the government wasting its resources adding layer upon layer of restrictive legislation when there are so many other serious issues that deserve attention.

Leave me and my kittehs alone.

I have 34 cats--I rescued all of them. All are spayed/neutered and healthy and loved. They live in my house but I have a cat door and my cats can go in and out as they want to. I also have a purrfect fence that encloses my backyard and the cats cannot get over it to roam outside of my yard. So they are safe from traffic, dogs, etc. They do not bother anybody else at all.
The law makers need to go after the people who abandon cats, or who are irresponsible and allow their cats to multiply so that there are too many cats. The law makers need to put their efforts in the right place.

but but what will all the crazy cat ladies do?

igs: First of all, God bless you for taking care of all those helpless cats.

I don't care if you have 47 or 147cats, you have a perfect right to how ever many you want as long as you keep them well.

IMO these lawmakers in Dudley are just narrow-minded boobs who should stick to more pressing problems in their county.

People, if they come for our cats, what will they come for next?
