Veterans Day

IT IS THE SOLDIER

It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.

It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

Charles M. Province,
WWII Veteran

Good poem.

Happy Vet's day to all of you.

I'd also like to say that our families endured a lot of crap while we served during those long deployments.

Very true. God bless the vets and their families.

I love that poem. It is the truth.
God bless our vets and the people who love and worry for them.

Mr. AOW had a wonderful surprise at the nursing home on Wednesday morning: a rose and a card, both in recognition of his service as a veteran!

Mr. AOW had thought that the nursing home would overlook commemorating Veterans Day. But such was not the case!

Getting that rose and card really brightened up his day.
