Bridges Too Far

I'm phobic when it comes to high, scary bridges and the Millau Viaduct in France makes my skin crawl just looking at the photo.

15 Scariest Bridges In The World

I'm not good with the Seven Mile Bridge reaching out to The Keys in Florida, but I'm not happy with Tampa Bay's Sunshine Skyway Bridge either.

I guess I'd rather go around.

Only a few people have driven off the Mackinac Bridge.
Last was a Yugo I believe.

My family grew up crossing the Causeway, the 24 mile bridge over Lake Pontchartrain, as well as the spillway bridges. As scared of them as i used to be, i had no choice but to get over it as there is no way around.

I'm with you. There has to be something very interesting, like San Francisco, on the other side to get me to cross.

I'm not allowed to talk when hubby is driving over a tall bridge. He has a death grip on the wheel and his eyes remain forward for the entirety of the bridge.

Have a fabulous day. ☺

Ed Bonderenka: That's comforting. I haven't heard of a Yugo in decades.

Messymimi: Oh my word. The Lake Ponchartrain Causeway Bridge holds the Guinness Record for longest continuous bridge over water in the world. That would curl my toes.

Jan: I grew up in New York so bridges were a part of life that couldn't be ignored. When my dad drove over the George Washington Bridge or the Verrazano Bridge, I took great comfort in the fact that we were in a VW bug which had a sealed bottom so if we were to fall into the water, we'd float like a boat. Yeah, right, but I was just a child.

Then I moved to Florida and my bridge fear wasn't diminished by a trip over the Seven Mile Bridge going to the Keys. Then came 1980 when the disaster happened on the old Skyway and 35 people plunged to their death when a barge hit the bridge.

Let's just say my gephyrophobia hasn't abated at all.

Sandee: You mean you your husband doesn't pretend to lose control of the car when you're driving on high bridges or negotiating dangerous turns on mountain roads without guard rails? Oh, lucky you.

We have plenty of bridge-a-phobic people here that are out in force during the morning and evening rush hour. I drive 8 miles of freeway, and often I'm going 80 until I get near THE BRIDGE!!! Then about a half mile out all 3 lanes come to a complete stop and we inch our way to and over the bridge that is barely 1/10th of a mile long if that. Then once across the bridge, we're back to 60. We would be 80, but many of those in front of me are still shaking form crossing the bridge I guess.
Most dysfunctional driving city in America, and Backed up by the NTSB saying so. Cincinnati. Can't wait to get out.

Kid: Ha! That sounds somewhat like what happens here on the Howard Frankland bridge. Traffic is fine until you get to the high hump in the middle and then it's an excrutiatingly slow climb until you get past it and traffic speeds back to normal. It happens all the time.

Cube.... So infuriating. If these drivers were in Pittsburgh or Phoenix, people would simply shoot and kill them D E A D. I'm serious.

Kid: Or Florida. Here we assume everyone is carrying so maybe we're all afraid someone will shoot back.
