Hurricane Irma batters Florida with catastrophic storm surge, wind and rain

UPDATE: Went outside at 2:45 PM, it was raining and very breezy.

UPDATE: It's 830 PM and it's raining like crazy.
UPDATE: I went out at 11:30 pm and it was very breezy. I had to hold on. There was some rain

The wind is bad. The surge is potentially worse.

Jan: We're still good. It's eerily quiet right now, but Hell will come real soon. I'll tag as soon as I can.
Even if no damage the power is probably going to be out a good while. Hope you don't have much of an ordeal. All the best to you.
Kid: Yes, there will be power failure, but we've got three generators so we'll make do. I can't believe how quiet it still is and how dark it looks because our windows are bordered up.
I must say it is very surreal. It's a good thing I have books.
