New Dino

New 26,000-pound Dinosaur Discovery Was Earth's Largest Land Animal

Until a new biggest dinosaur discovery is unearthed, but that's the way science progresses.

Meet Ledumahadi mafube, a relative of the brontosaurus, and whose name means "a giant thunderclap at dawn."

As a child growing up in New York, a class trip to the Museum of National History was even cooler than our fantastic visit to the Statue of Liberty. I was, and still am, a fan of dinosaurs and when I walked up to those enormous skeletons, I didn't want to leave and the teacher had to literally drag me out of the room.

Seeing them up close was an unforgettable experience. I'm still a fan and now we welcome a new member.

Me too Cube. When in a museum standing next to a reconstructed skeleton of a T Rex for example, I vividly imagine running into one in real life.

I have enjoyed all the Jurassic movies but I wish they'd figure out a different way for the lead characters to escape beside having a bigger dinosaur kill the aggressor dinosaur...

I'm glad they are not around now to scare us to pieces. I would go to the museum though.

Have a fabulous day. ♥

Kid: Thinking of dinosaurs always reminds me of Fred V.I. Flintstone... remember the V.I. stood for vivid imagination? I've always had a wicked imagination and those dino skeletons spoke to me the same way they spoke to you.

As to the movies, I watched the first two Jurassic ones, but I'm not a big movie watcher anymore. Short of a nuclear bomb, what else will kill a big dinosaur except a bigger dinosaur?
Hey, there's always Mechogodzilla! I'm up for that ;)

Comedy Plus: I love dinos when they're articulated skeletons in a museum. If they were alive and well, I'd be breaking a leg running in the opposite direction. You'd have a laugh if you saw me running away from the Buick-sized flying roaches in Florida.

When i was a kid, i loved dinos and watched all those old dinosaur movies, the really kitschy ones. They are still fascinating, and i wonder, there has to be a limit to how big they got simply because of gravity.

Messymimi: Me, too. I loved those old movies, but you make a very good point about size. All those movies about ginormous spiders, et al, attacking suburban communities were all a scientific impossibility. Thank goodness!!!!! Still, we can create a robotic Mechagodzilla that could theoretically take down this new super big dinosaur without having to resort to nukes. It's just a thought ;)

Well, Dr Who would often get out of jams with a sonic screwdriver :-)

Ed Bonderenka: Welcome to today. Glad to have you on board.

Jan: They'd kill you in a New York minute.

Kid: I would kill for one of Dr Who's screwdrivers. They're super expensive on eBay ;)

I've been called a dinosaur, but people leave it at that. There doesn't seem to be any discrimination: velociraptor, t-rex, or something less exotic.

When I was young, I played with those injection molded toy dinosaurs. Today my grandsons do but the current toys are far more lifelike and some of them have buttons that make them bite and roar.

We need a Jurassic Park - somewhere. I realize that the dinosaurs always escape and eat people, but it's a small price to pay.

LL: Being a dinosaur isn't the worst, is it? Would you rather be a velociraptor, a T-rex, a tricerotops, or a brontosaurus?

When I was super-little it was all imagination. Very cheap. Then I grew up and played with Mattel's Thingmaker that made shrunken heads, freakish fingernails, scars, etc.., I loved it, but plastigoop was expensive. Less imagination, but more money. It grew and grew from there. Now I have a smart phone... more money and even less imagination. See the pattern?
