The Cult Of Obama

Out of the Boston Herald comes an article by Margery Eagan that will make you shake your head in disbelief:

When Backing Barack Feels Like Joining A Cult

Eagan likens Obama followers to "Moonies, or Hare Krishnas, or the Hale-Bopp-Is-Coming-To-Get-Me nuts", yet she calls herself "an Obama girl".

Ahh, McCain never looked so good.

That would be too rich. It can't be true!

My driving instructor in High School kept telling us "don't drink that kool'aid and get behind the wheel!"

Now it's "don't drink that kool'aid and go out and vote!"

Oh, gawd help us all... I might vote for Hillary in the primaries just to put Obama down.

My thinking is that Billary has a political machine in place that can steal an election. Obama, although, a slick speaker, doesn't have such a machine in place yet. I honestly believe he is the more beatable candidate come November.

I think that people are just looking for someone, anyone, to believe in. It is a rather sad commentary on our society and where the political system has taken us.

Wouldn't Hillary have come out and said something about Obama if she could have, since by now it looks as though she can't win?

I don't think there's a problem with the political system. There's a problem with uneducated voters who will cast aside reason and vote for anyone that tells them they are victims and they are to have hope because the government is coming to save them from themselves. Apparently one can speak in empty platitudes and command the attention of millions, but that's been true of a multitude of tyrants/leaders over the course of history, e.g., Caligula, Hitler, Lenon, Stalin. Isn't anyone interested in what "the change" will be, or have we become like the French who love revolution for the sake of revolution.

I know this is a rant, but the weather is bad here and I've been watching too much news. I'll understand if this gets deleted Cube. Have a great weekend.

ken: People need to use their heads, not fall for the empty rhetoric of the candidate who offers the most free stuff at taxpayer expense.

voracious: You make some excellent points. I'm not deleting a single word.

I wouldn't count Billary out yet, though, she is tricky & will stop at nothing to win.

I won't believe she's done until I see her feet sticking out from underneath the house ;-)

Any alleged cult of Obama pails in comparison to the neocon cult of Bush who is a complete failure.

Forgot something - I see you parrot Rush Limbaugh like a good little puppy because he's one of the ones who'd made the absurd claim of a cult.
Why can't you think for yourself?

raoul: I could be angry by someone who makes his first appearance on my blog & chooses to insult me. But I realize that although your Bush Derangement Syndrome runs deep, you are also suffering the loss of Fidelito, the beloved dictator of liberal lefties.

I don't feel your pain, but can understand the wellspring of it.

There is help for you. Here's one suggestion

Cube,
No emotive viewpoint here, merely stating the obvious since your words were almost EXACTLY what El Rushbo had regurgitated on his show. Unlike most right wing hacks, I happen to listen to my opponents' shows and read their various essays or stories.

And, there is no such thing as a liberal leftie. You're either a liberal or a Leftist. The Leftist point of view is much more radical, in nature, than that of a liberal who merely wants to get along with everyone no matter what the price is. I can elaborate but I don't want to tax your mind. [g]

raoul: really, don't bother, liberal lefty.
