Here Kitty, Kitty...
This went through the blogosphere at warp speed:
University Of Indiana Stops Using Live Cats For Study
My old Embryology professor used to say when discussing dissection in class that there was nothing better than a fresh cat.
She was tough on us and we complained about her fast pace, but, years later, I can still recall many of her lectures.

Cube - Oh my gosh. First I saw that sweet picture of the kitty and then I saw the words University of Indiana.
Now you never say University of Indiana, but rather it is Indiana University.
I know, because that is my alma mater. And furthermore, if our house sells we may be moving back there next month.
So, cube, you can see why this post really got my attention!
And if they are mistreating kittens, you can bet I will step up and do something about it. :=)
I read that word EMBROIDERY instead of EMBRYOLOGY so I really had a weird slant on it, believe me :-)
sue, if they mistreat kitties there, you have our permission WOMP the bad guys!
Sue Hanes: I did not know about Indiana University... sorry. I just pasted and copied the article.
BTW they stopped mistreating kitties @ Indiana University so don't go banging any heads ;-)
Z: lol. Embroidery. Yes, that would put quite a weird slant on it.
They have now enrolled them in the computer sciences program instead?
cube - I always wonder why people would mistreat kittens - or any animals in the first place.
Chuck: hee hee. It's one of the few jobs they can do without having opposable thumbs ;-)
Sue Hanes: In order to earn a science degree back in the day,(mine is in Biology), we had to participate in the use of animals in lab experiments. We didn't think of it as mistreatment anymore than a butcher thinks of cutting up an animal for sale as mistreatment.
I love all animals and I'm not proud of what I did to some of them, but it was essential for my grade at the time.
If there is now a way to achieve a medical scientific education without hurting an animal, I'm all for it.
Yikes! Good news for those cats!
I know that sometimes it is unavoidable to use animals in research if you want to learn things to improve the quality of life. But I am very glad to see that they have found another method in this case.
Silly Rabbit: I wasn't happy to do what I had to do for a grade, but it was a necessary evil at the time.
If computers can replicate the body systems required for a complete education, then I'm all for it.
This is good news for our friendly felines! No cruelty against cats. Indiana University is cat friendly now. Wooo Hooo!
Animal research can be necessary at times, but if they've found a way around that, good!
Glad to see you back, Cube.
I remember freaking out seeing a dissected cat in my science class in high school.
I am grateful to that school for discontinuing killing beautiful and intelligent kitties.
