Fat Tuesday

We have similar Mardi Gras festivals here in Tampa, but we call them Gasparilla, when Tampa Bay is invaded by pirates and lighthearted insanity insues.

I've got tons of beads from many parades I've attended, but the above is one one my most favorite catches of all time... cubular beads.

I have a question about the side bar of your blog. What is the danasoft thing about?

The Happy Whisk: It's a widget that gives you information about your website including your IP address and other stuff such as your carrier and stuff like that, but it's not available to other readers, just to you. When I look at the danasoft thing on my site, it tells me info about my site. Period. If you're worried about privacy, I'd worry more about the info provided by every site counter on most blogs you visit. It's a way of the site owner being able to catalog who visits, from where, from what carrier, etc.. Most blogs have site counters.

The Happy Whisk: I went back and checked mine... The part about Hal's big red eye watching you is a sci fi joke from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I've tossed all my beads, but I never had to do anything to get them. Well except catch them. I love those beads.

Have a fabulous day. ☺

Sandee: I've never been on a float to toss them, but I've had some spectacular catches over the years.

I thought insanity issues abounded in Tampa. Or am i thinking of Miami?

I thought insanity issues abounded in Tampa with all the Buccaneers.

Thanks for explaining.

How does it help you if it tells you stuff you already know about your own site?

Jan: I can't speak for Miami, but there are two separate events (and possibly more, but that's another comment) that produce mass insanity issues in Tampa. One is our football team, the Buccaneers, and while there is a giant pirate ship in our stadium that shoots cannonballs when they score a touchdown (rarely happens), but they're not the pirates that invade our city.

Every year in February, a large pirate ship invades Tampa Bay, comes ashore and take the key to the city from the Mayor. It's tradition and lots of parades ensue, including a children's parade, a day parade, and a naughty night parade, where many beads get tossed around like candy.

I don't know why this city celebrates a pirate invasion, but it reminds me of "The Fog' out your way in Antonio Bay, in the misty North California coast ;)

The Happy Whisk: It only helps you if you don't happen to know your IP address and your internet carrier. Some people don't know right off the top of their head, but if you're worried about privacy, anyone with a site meter on their blog can get way more information about your site that this widget can. I'd be glad to answer any other questions you have. Just let me know.

Thanks. Not worried about privacy. Just didn't understand why I would want to be told info that I already new about what I was using. Thanks!

Always ready for a spontaneous game of Yahtzee to break out!

Of course you would get the cube beads. Sounds like fun. I didn't know Fat Tuesday was celebrate anywhere but New Orleans.

DaBlade: I assume Yahtzee is a game of dice.. OK, maybe in 20 years I'll be there.

Granny Annie: I was fortunate to grab the cube beads and I'll never forget that catch. That was a keeper, but most are just your average beads, but some are memorable. On one occasion, I grabbed a plastic baseball that was thrown from the NY Mets float. I can't tell you how far I reached out for that thing, but I managed to snatch it within a sea of other people. Well, for the rest of the night, one of my Jersey friends who was a Mets fan, kept asking to trade for it. He kept saying that I wasn't a Mets fan so it didn't mean that much to me. Well, for me, it was all in the catch.
