Happy birthday. That would be such a fun work table--or is that a conflict in terms?

Sandee: Thank you my dear, but I have stopped counting. As far as the table, the only way I could afford it, is if my husband builds it for me.

That's a neat table. This one looks like is was made out of a single slab of wood, though it could be made from multiple pieces.

Kid: Yes, I would think two pieces would be easier than one. Absolutely. That's how I would attack it.

I just read my comment and see it could be taken more than one way. You got my meaning thankfully. I'm thinking more like 4 pieces of 3/4 stock.
But yea, multiple pieces face glued together after forming them into the shape they needed to be than a final sanding to make the exposed edges appear as smooth as they do here. If we get some more young cats, I will definitely make one. When we were fostering kittens, I made them a sort of kitten castle. Multiple floors and different ways to traverse from one floor to the other, steps, tunnels, carpet covered poles mainly. They had a blast on that thing playing with each other and exploring.

Well depending on how big your cats are more like 12 pieces of 3/4 stock glued together in the desired tunnel patterns would give you 9 inches in which to design the tunnels. 1/2 inch top and bottom of the tunnels gives you 8 inch high tunnels for the cats to move around.

Kid: As much as I'd love a new table, we had a HUGE oak tree fall over onto our deck. We've had to budge for that act of God.
