From AP Washington comes this article divulging that Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers once owned a Smith & Wesson .45-caliber revolver... AND IS NOT LICENSED TO CARRY A CONCEALED HANDGUN IN TEXAS... [cue the melodramatic violin music, and begin the hand wringing from the press]
And if that wasn't bad enough, the article continues, "state officials refused Monday to reveal whether she has ever been licensed...
[cue the melodramatic organ music next].
So what?
It is not a crime to own a handgun in Texas. A person in Texas can own a gun without a concealed handgun license. In Texas, it is not a crime to carry a rifle in plain sight, but a concealed carry permit is a separate right, requiring training and certification. Texas is one of 43 states that allow concealed weapons, and only about 230,000 residents are registered under the law, but I'd be willing to bet that in some places, there isn't a home that doesn't have firearms of some kind.
This is such non news.
What's next? Miers is exposed as being one of those foul folks who drinks orange juice directly from the carton?

That's GOT to be unconstitutional!
You'd be absolutely SHOCKED to find out how many people do not realize that you do not need a license to own a gun -- nearly everyone I talk to that doesn't own one thinks you need a license to even have a gun.
Scary.
Scary, indeed, but not surprising. There is a lot of misinformation out there & lot's of ignorant people eager & willing to believe it.
I'll bet she has the audacity to vote once in a while, too.
Unlike a sadly large portion of the "citizens" in these "United" States.

so SHE is the one who isnt replacing the toilet paper roll when she uses the last of it... all this time i thought it was my husband. Now i KNOW who is to blame!
Actually, our family has always owned lots of guns. rifles, hand guns, shot guns. only one concealed permit among the bunch. The only way this would be news is if she had been caught carrying a gun in her purse without the permit.... otherwise, who cares!?!?
I hear Harriet Miers likes to rip those tags off of mattresses, just for fun.
The woman sounds like a menace to society.
