The Day Einstein Died

Albert Einstein died 55 years ago, on April 18, 1955, of heart failure at age 76.
Only one photographer managed to capture the events of that extraordinary day: LIFE magazine's Ralph Morse, but his pictures were never published until now.

Exclusive: The Day Einstein Died

Fascinating.

Well, who am I to not honor Al's wishes?

I hear ya. I hear it doesn't pay to argue with Al. He's usually right.

Didn't he ride on the St. Louis and somehow manage to get off?

A clean desk is a sign of a weak mind.

Jan, I would be considered a strong man then.

I think of men like him and Hawking and am in awe. Imagine these men sitting around doing complex calculations in their head. I am not a stupid person and they amaze me.

Steve Harkonnen: I don't know...

Jan: Then I am a titan among polyhedron.

Chuck: That reminds me of the poker scene from Star Trek: the Next Generation where Data is playing with Hawking, Einstein, and Newton. Now that would be awesome.

These pix were absolutely fascinating, I looked closely and read it all and felt like I was there.
Didn't he have a charming house, though?
As for clean desks? I'm not sure what color the top of mine is :-)
But, seriously, Cube, thanks..this really was interesting.

Interesting. I too like the desk. You hear about a messy desk but an organized mind. Indeed.

What an excellent series of photos!

As I recall, the autopsy sliced up Einstein's brain every which way, but didn't learn anything from the pathology reports.

AH! This is better known as Einstein's Theory of Perceptivity.
