It does make you wonder. We had a man here who failed the bar exam 3 times, so he got himself elected to the state legislature instead. When he was caught with bribe money in his hand, on camera, he said it was because of racism. He's still in prison. These are high enough up that they won't get caught as he did.

Given the nature of the creature, I don't find that surprising.
I'm not surprised that they do it, but I do find it surprising that so many fall in their thrall.
They are the inspiration for so many lawyer jokes.
I've known a lot of great attorney's in my day, and then I've known these kinds of folks too.
