Happy Father's Day

My father was the last person to care about Father's Day. He wanted his children to care about him and our mother every day, but not in a big way, nothing special, just a simple phone call was good enough. That was his way.

My Dad and I talked politics a lot, but he was also the source of many animal stories when I was a child that I think led to my lifelong love of biology and science. Thank goodness I also inherited his math genes.

He was a good father. He passed away on May 8th, and it truly hurts me to talk about him in the past tense for the first Father's Day in my life without him.

I urge you who are fortunate to have your father today, to hug him hard and appreciate all he's done for you. In keeping with my Dad's philosophy, it doesn't have to be anything special, just show him you care.

Please accept my condolences for your loss. My heart hurts for you. Yes, i went to see Grandpa (my father, my children's grandfather, i call him Grandpa just to make it easier for all of us) yesterday and brought him barbecue.

Sounds like you had a great father. I'm so sorry you're experiencing your first Father's Day without your day. ☺

Messymimi: Thank you. I'm glad you went to see your father. I'm sure he enjoyed the visit and the BBQ, too :)

DaBlade: Thank you. It is fresh. Father's Day on the heels of what would have been his 90th birthday last Thursday. Although all this year he told everybody that he was 90. He thought it was close enough.

Did you hear that only 18 people came out to hear Former President Obama speak in Germany with Angela Merkel at his side? It's so obvious that Merkel and the German people really do not respect This phony guy , and as a matter of fact they loathe him. He's been running alive the world trying to get his legacy restored, after President Trump an "schlonged" him as being an embarrassment to America! . How will he ever ever get any respect back after Trump degraded him and made s fool out of him and his failed policies?

This really is a beautiful post, Cube. I ache for your loss...he sounds like a fabulous dad.
I adored mine, too...he used to make us laugh on mother's day when he had no gift for Mom "It's Mother's Day and she's NOT my mother!" :) He worshipped the ground she walked on but not with a gift on Mom's Day !! God bless you and your family.

It is always a tough holiday for me. I know the first one without them is the toughest! I always do things he would have joking around, plus giving out candy which he always seemed to have a lot of. It can be comforting to remember them in that way. After 26 years now it is only a tad easier!

Z: Thank you for your kind words. He was a great father. Your dad sounds very much like mine when it came to Mother's Day. My husband also used to say the same thing, but he would slip our daughters money on the sly for them to get something for me. Sounds like we've both been blessed with wonderful families.

Snaggle Tooth: Sorry to hear that you lost your dad early in your life. I feel fortunate to have had mine for 60 years. I lost my paternal grandmother 45 years ago and I still feel her loss somedays. A loss of this magnitude never really goes away.
