Sadly, Michael Piller, a longtime executive producer of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager, lost his battle with cancer yesterday. The co-creator of Deep Space Nine and Voyager and writer of Star Trek: Insurrection, whose most recent production was the ABC Family series Wildfire, died at age 57.
Piller, who produced more than 500 hours of Star Trek, also had writing credits on Simon & Simon, Miami Vice, and co-created UPN's Legend and more recently USA's The Dead Zone.
His work will be missed.

I don't know of this fellow, but 57 is too young to die. Cancer robbed him.
I agree, J.D.
timely, as i sit here watching TNG on the telly as i read your post. My husband and i were just discussing how they should make a new star trek. (something goofy like have wil wheaton come back and be wesley crusher again since i really like him and read his blog)
sad to lose talent so young.
Oh man, that stinks!
I think the current suits at Paramount consider Trek as something akin to toxic waste.
Maybe in a few years, or when new blood comes into Paramount, but I'm not optimistic, especially after what happened to Enterprise.
dak-ind: yes, and we can call it Star Trek: Die, Wesley, Die. We can abbreviate it as ST:DWD. It has a nice ring to it.
hahaha did you see the bit on the i love the 80s 3d where wil wheaton is actually saying somethign similary... he keeps saying JUST SHUT UP WESLEY! hahaha
